Requisition Number: S_220487 Department: Agricultural Rsch Division-0786 Description of Work: Position will be responsible for assisting the greenhouse manager with day to day operations of the Beadle greenhouses. Position will perform various duties that are dependent on growing seasons and needs/requirements of research projects. Monitor pest, disease and fertility regimes (includes weekly detection of pests and disease), clean-up infected areas and plant material. Also help with researching plant problems, safety issues, inventory, fertilizing, and autoclaving. Ability to obtain a pesticide applicators license within six months of hire essential. Regular weekend and holiday hours are required as part of a rotation within the staff. Minimum Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency plus 4 years of experience in a plant related field OR Associate degree in horticulture or related field plus 2 years of experience; any equivalent combination of education and experience considered. Must have general plant care knowledge and/or experience, i.e., seeding, planting, and watering. Must be organized and able to set goals and take the necessary steps to ensure goals are completed. Must have effective communication skills. Valid driver's license and ability to obtain pesticide applicator license within 6 months of hire. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in plant physiology and structure of agronomic and horticultural crops grown in a greenhouse desirable. Knowledge of plant growth, propagation, fertilization, and pest control preferred. Knowledge of seed sowing techniques, storage, harvesting and sterilizing; plant diseases – causes and controls; insects – favorable environment and control desirable. Pesticide Applicator License preferred. Posted Salary: $17.50/hr minimum Job Type: Full-Time
