Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Medical Campus Strategic Initiatives and the Senior Director, Business Development, the Business Development Specialist will help to advance the goals of the WUSM business development team and improve operational efficiency by building relationships and networking with faculty and PIâ™s, researching prospective corporate partners, providing project management support, developing metrics, and action item tracking. They will create, review and provide recommendations on proposal presentations and other technical documents. The Business Development Specialist will also provide administrative support to industry partnership meetings including setting up software applications, arranging meeting logistics and scheduling, providing technical support during meetings, retrieving and organizing data, and tracking action items following meetings. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities Communicates (both orally and in writing) with faculty and staff and build networks across the School of Medicine (WUSM). Become knowledgeable of key research areas of focus across the SOM and align those with the interest of potential collaboration partners. Develops and deploys internal marketing strategies to promote industry collaboration programs to WUSM faculty and PIâ™s. Develops prospect list of new external partners by researching company R&D portfolios and strategic goals that align to WUSMâ™s strategic areas of scientific development.  Develops and executes a project management process for industry partnerships including developing timelines and scope, action item execution, and tracking. Assists in keeping projects on time, on target, and on budget by providing reminders and updates to project stakeholders. Develops and oversees proofing, editing and finalizing of âpitchâ? presentations and other business development related documents. Makes recommendations on how to enhance presentations/branding using new technology, content, images, and other data.  Organizes and maintains data/documents/files generated as part of business development activities. Coordinates with administrative staff across WUSM and external stakeholders to schedule project update meetings/business development meetings and manage associated logistics. Provides technical assistance with equipment and application operation before and during meetings; works with IT staff to ensure technology is operating properly.  Performs other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications Job-related experience in public health, pharmaceuticals, and/or scientific research is strongly preferred. One to three years of experience in project management. Ability to read and interpret technical/scientific data.  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, including faculty, staff, students, and departments across the organization to accomplish tasks.  Outgoing and assertive personality; enjoys contacting, meeting, and building positive relationships with people. Experience in basic/translational research and an understanding of the process of developing a new drug/technology for commercialization. Understanding of the basic principles/practices/tools of project management.  Experience planning, organization and scheduling of multi-day events (virtual and in person). Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).  Proficiency with basic computer programs including MS Office suite and database systems. Required Qualifications PhD in chemistry, biology, neuroscience, genetics or related field. Successful experience working as a Postdoctoral Fellow or Postdoc Research Associate at a research-intensive University.  Grade G13 Salary Range Base pay is commensurate with experience. The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
