Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Engineer Systems to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.

The selected candidate will be responsible for coordination and collaboration with diverse engineering design teams to provide imaginative, technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems in establishing and managing the technical baseline in support of programmatic milestones. The candidate will perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

The position requires system thinking and extensive knowledge of development life-cycle processes. Candidate must exhibit strong communication skills (written and oral) and support coordination cross-IPT toward the goal of an operationally validated integrated system.

Duties will include:
  • Lead cross-IPT development of system level requirements and use cases
  • Implement requirements verification methodology and traceability
  • Lead development of interface definitions and integration plans
  • Conduct formal integration and support capabilities based system level testing of fully integrated complex software and hardware subsystems
  • Evaluate integration and test anomalies and assist disposition and correction of issues as found
  • Perform requirements verification and selloff
  • Provide support to flight test and fielded assets
  • Apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts. Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts.
  • Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.
  • Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives. Assignments are often self-initiated. Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by formal review of superior.
  • Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve critical organizational objectives and effect the image of the organization technological capability. Liaison Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs. Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications
Basic Qualifications:
  • BS degree in a STEM discipline with 14 years engineering experience; MS degree in STEM discipline with 12 years engineering experience; PhD degree in STEM discipline with 9 Years engineering experience.
  • Experience in troubleshooting system issues and identifying root causes
  • Experience with Systems Engineering V-Model of development
  • Active Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Programming Skills in C/C++/Python/VBA
  • Familiarity with Global Hawk architecture and interface control documentation
  • Experience supporting field operations including maintenance and mission support
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering and Design processes
  • Experience testing space/US military products
  • Familiarity working with military specifications/standards
  • Ability to develop task specific test tools
  • Demonstrated communication and technical writing skills
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
Salary Range: $156,000 USD - $234,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
