Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Veterinary Anesthesiology. This appointment can be tenure-track or clinical-track, depending on the goals of the applicant. The successful candidate will be part of a team of four anesthesiologists who provide clinical services for small and large animal patients in the Animal Health Institute and who participate in anesthesiology, clinical skills, and elective courses within the DVM curriculum.

The following qualifications are required:

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Must have completed ACVAA or ECVAA residency. Board-certified candidates will receive preference.
  • Must have or be able to obtain, within 2 months of start date, AZ Veterinary license or AZ Veterinary Faculty license. (Faculty licenses are available for graduates of Colleges of Veterinary Medicine outside of the U.S.)
  • Evidence of excellent clinical and communication skills
  • Demonstrate commitment to client/patient-centered care
  • High motivation in teaching veterinary students
  • Willingness to engage in collaborative clinical research
  • Strong commitment to meeting the needs of students
  • A collaborative mindset to foster a team approach to teaching and service
The following qualifications are desirable but not required
  • Teaching experience
  • Research experience
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field of study
  • Additional advanced training
Midwestern University is a private, not-for-profit organization that provides graduate and professional education in the health sciences. The University has two campuses -- one in Downers Grove, Illinois, and one in Glendale, Arizona where the College of Veterinary Medicine is located. Glendale is located only 9 miles northwest of Downtown Phoenix, which is now the fifth-largest city in the nation. Phoenix and its surrounding areas offer a variety of exciting entertainment options suitable for people of any ages. This includes a diverse range of attractions such as theaters, museums, zoos, aquariums, water parks, lakes, and many scenic trails that are perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. In addition to that, within a short driving distance, you can find beautiful mountains for skiing and hiking, beaches, and many national parks for your preferred outdoor adventure.

More than 6,700 full-time students are enrolled in graduate programs in veterinary medicine, osteopathic medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nurse anesthesia, cardiovascular perfusion, podiatry, optometry, clinical psychology, speech-language pathology, and biomedical sciences. Over 500 full-time faculty members and 400 staff members are dedicated to the education and development of our students in an environment that encourages learning, respect for all members of the healthcare team, service, interdisciplinary scholarly activity, and personal growth. The College of Veterinary Medicine received full accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education in September of 2018.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is housed in Cactus Wren Hall and in the Animal Health Institute. Cactus Wren Hall is a new facility with ample classrooms, teaching laboratories, research laboratories, conference rooms, and offices. The Animal Health Institute is comprised of The Companion Animal Clinic, The Large Animal Clinic, and The Diagnostic Pathology Center. The Companion Animal Clinic is a modern and innovative veterinary teaching hospital for small animals. The 110,000 sq. ft. building contains state-of-the-art medical, surgical, internal medicine, dental, and urgent care facilities. Additional patient services include neurology, physical therapy, cardiology, and therapeutic plasma exchange. The clinic also offers full-service shelter medicine, clinical pathology, and microbiology laboratories. In addition to outstanding clinical facilities and equipment, the Companion Animal Clinic houses a pharmacy, a large and well-equipped surgery teaching laboratory, simulated examination rooms for clinical communications training using standardized clients/patients, and ample conference and small-group meeting rooms. Adjacent to the Companion Animal Clinic is the Large Animal Clinic, which houses large animal teaching and treatment facilities, and small herds of cattle and horses. The Diagnostic Pathology Center offers a full range of anatomical pathology and forensic pathology services and contains ample teaching spaces.
