Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position Summary The Senior Assistant Director position is part of the Undergraduate Admissions Office team, working directly on designing the visit experience, focused on helping the University meet its goals of enrolling a talented and diverse student body. This position is responsible for the recruitment, evaluation, selection, and yield of applicants and is also responsible for planning and leading special projects or programs. Duties include leading, managing, organizing, and staffing recruitment events and programs; managing paid student interns and ambassadors; providing counseling and service to students and families about the University and the college decision process; reviewing and evaluating applications to render admission decisions; and developing and maintaining relationships with school counselors and others. This position represents the University and office internally and externally. The Senior Assistant Director position manages one or more project or program areas within the Admissions Office and supports other projects as assigned. The position plans, coordinates, and executes programming related to these project area(s); provides guidance and leadership to carry out these projects; ensures projects are well implemented; and conducts analysis to evaluate project effectiveness. Strong professional judgment, initiative, flexibility, and a collaborative mindset are required. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities   Student Staff Management Oversees up to 20 current student interns and 80 paid Bear Ambassadors having to do with the visitor experience. Strategically develops and implements training, development, and recognition programs. Manages day-to-day staffing. Thinks creatively and innovatively; uses data to inform, enrich, and implement projects and programs. Ensures that all on-campus visitors have the best possible experience that will encourage them to apply. Works collaboratively with the Director and Associate Director of the Visit Experience to ensure that the vision is implemented in a professional, welcoming way. Works with the marketing communications team to develop collateral and swag. Project Management Leads, plans, and manages project or program area(s) as assigned. Develops and executes programming, processes, and procedures related to project area(s). If applicable, maintains program budget(s) based on guidelines set by departmentâ™s budget leadership. Collaborates with colleagues, supervisor, and departmental leadership (as needed) to ensure project success. Recruitment Management Manages recruitment territory that involves travel and interactions with students, parents, and counselors at high school visits, college fairs, panels, and other college recruitment activities. Provides admissions advice to prospective students and families. Conducts workshops on college admissions. Works closely with high school counselors and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) to develop strong relationships for the University. Excellent communication skills and knowledge about the University and admissions are critical. Must maintain a professional attitude at all times as a representative of the University. Provides support to other project area(s) and program(s) as assigned by supervisor and/or departmental leadership. Application Evaluation and Selection Process Reviews and evaluates applications and participate on (or lead) committees to make admissions recommendations and decisions aligned with institutional goals. Confidentiality and thoughtful consideration of applicants are a must. Must have the ability to work independently following admissions guidelines; leads and participates in discussions and decision-making processes; keep pace with reading expectations; and meets all deadlines throughout the reading season. Service Conducts information sessions about the University and Admissions for prospective students and families. Provides customer service by answering phone calls and emails from prospective students and parents. Interviews prospective students who visit campus. Answers questions about the University, admissions, and St. Louis. Works with faculty, deans, and representatives from other departments at the University to support recruitment and enrollment efforts. Must be able to make mature decisions and recommendations. Other duties as assigned. Working Conditions The position will be located in an open office environment. As conditions merit, this position may be required to work remotely. Travel and attendance at many events on and off campus is necessary, which may include international travel. Travel expectation is six to eight weeks per year. Must transport recruitment materials to high school visits, college fairs, and group meetings. Work outside of normal business hours is necessary throughout the year. Position requires heavy use of the computer including an electronic application reading system in the office and at home.  Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree. Five years of significant work experience in Admissions or related areas. Previous project management or budgeting skills. Previous presentation experience. Strong professional judgment. Must be able to apply University and office policies to varying situations and make recommendations on how to solve problems. Excellent judgment when dealing with projects or communicating with prospective students and families. Ability to prioritize. Strong organizational and project management skills. Demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to take the initiative for projects and improvement. Ability to work outside of standard university work hours. Strong attention to detail. Ability to understand the âbig pictureâ?. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to balance many tasks. Must be able to work independently. Ability to interpret data. Required Qualifications Bachelorâ™s degree plus three yearsâ™ experience in higher education or related field. Grade G10 Salary Range $45,800.00 - $75,900.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
