Summary Direct hiring authority for 0401 series is being used to fill this position. Responsibilities Positions in this occupational series involve performing duties/responsibilities in a combination of several professional fields or a specialized professional field that require knowledge of biological sciences or natural resource management. Work may be performed in research and development organizations and/or medical laboratory environments. Both biological science and natural resources management functions may involve advising agency management, other scientists and professionals, employees and stakeholders. A) Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position OR B) Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicants must also meet the qualification requirements listed below. FV-H. Specialized Experience: At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized equivalent to the FV-G pay band (or FG/GS-5 thru 9 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples may include but are not limited to: performing developmental and basic research; utilizing conventional scientific or natural resources management tasks that have well-established boundaries or expectations; executes the administrative aspects of a study plan, e.g., secures a specified type of field site or laboratory; prepares justifications and impact statements for review by higher level scientists. FV-I. Specialized Experience: At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized equivalent to the FV-H pay band (or FG/GS-10-12 grade levels or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples may include but are not limited to: knowledge and abilities applicable to a wide range of biological science duties; independently performs recurring, well-precedented projects using standard methods and techniques; identifies and resolves problems; collecting, recording, and analyzing data; applying standard practices of related disciplines as they relate to biological science functions. FV-J. Specialized Experience. At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized equivalent to the FV-I pay band (or FG/GS-13 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples include but are not limited to: applying professional knowledge of biological scientific concepts, principles, methodology, and practices; independently performs routine projects with complete responsibility, or portions of large and complex projects and experiments; resolves complex problems; modifies or adapts standard processes and procedures; assess, select, and apply remedies for assigned studies. FV-K. Specialized Experience. At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized equivalent to the FV-J pay band (or FG/GS-14 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples include but are not limited to: professional knowledge of biological scientific concepts, principles, methodology, and practices and familiarity with other professional disciplines (e.g., engineering, physical sciences) to or continuing specialized projects; use findings of specialized studies, new analytical developments, and modified processes to resolve novel, obscure, or highly controversial problems that affect the program area; leads or oversees large and complex projects.
