A great opportunity for you to join our Tax Advisory group in the New York City office. Playing an integral part of a Global Tax Advisory Team, you will support businesses in the Americas (excluding Canada) with diverse US federal and international tax issues within a flexible, dynamic and progressive working environment. Team members work closely with business units and other members of the global tax team across a wide spectrum of transactions and businesses.

As a Tax Advisor, you'll work heavily in providing federal tax support in relation to transactions by or within the Macquarie Group involving the Americas Region (excluding Canada).

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • working with senior members of the Tax Advisory group on both business unit and central issues and transactions.
  • researching and analyze complex and varying unique tax issues.
  • work closely with all levels of staff (including senior management) in the business.
  • having regular exposure and interactions with other members of the Financial Management Group, including Tax Reporting, Treasury and Finance.
  • researching a broad range of substantive tax issues, including consolidated return rules and international tax issues (with a focus on inbound).
  • speaking with and supporting the business units on a regular basis.
  • reviewing and negotiating the tax provisions in ordinary course business agreements (e.g., loan agreements, purchase and sale agreements, etc.).
  • preparing internal memoranda regarding tax analysis and tax positions.
  • working with external advisors on transactions.
  • communicating and collaborating with other Global Tax Team members on new balance sheet transactions involving cross border dealings.
  • liaising with external tax advisors in order to obtain written advice and opinions.
To be successful in this role you will be able to handle multiple assignments by prioritizing tasks, self-directed in managing assignments, with ability to research federal tax questions.

You must also be comfortable working as part of a global team in an environment of dynamic change and possess strong communication skills including the ability to escalate issues to senior team members as needed.

You should be able to develop and maintain strong internal client relationships and external relationships with advisors, demonstrate a commercial focus, form a technical view and make timely decisions based on information provided by non-tax colleagues, and discuss those views with senior team members.

You should have a strong interest in federal tax law and have attained a legal degree or an accounting degree with federal tax law experience of 3-6 years.

The Financial Management Group provides financial, tax and treasury services to all areas of Macquarie. The group is focused on providing strategic analysis and advice to Macquarie's businesses and senior management, managing Macquarie's funding, liquidity and capital position, ensuring Macquarie continues to meet regulatory and compliance obligations and managing Macquarie's corporate affairs.
