The Gas Phase Chemical Dynamics group at Argonne National Laboratory seeks a postdoctoral appointee in the field of theoretical kinetics and/or dynamics. The position is directly supervised by Ahren Jasper and involves collaborations with a team of theoretical and experimental chemists exploring gas phase kinetics and fundamental chemical physics. This position supports the development and application of a priori theories for studying elementary processes in the gas phase and the development of software designed for massively parallel architectures. Based on mutual interest and experience, this could involve work in one or more of the following areas:
  • A priori chemical kinetics, including kinetics fundamental to oxidation and molecular growth chemistry
  • Nonthermal chemistry, including the prompt dissociation of energetic radical products and bimolecular reactions involving nascent energetic adducts
  • Electronically nonadiabatic chemistry, including the application of multidimensional statistical theories and semiclassical dynamical theories
  • Collisional energy transfer, including the development of "two-dimensional" master equation approaches and improved descriptions of chaperone effects and other high-pressure multicollision phenomena

Position Requirements

This position requires a recent PhD in chemistry or physics, a record of strong academic achievement, some kinetics and/or dynamics experience, and expertise in an area of theoretical chemistry. The ideal candidate will be interested in high-accuracy a priori methods development and/or applications in gas phase kinetics.
