We are looking for an Electronics Engineer to support the development of a new family of semiconductor process tools sensors at Applied Materials. Main activities include analogue and digital circuits schematic design & review, firmware testing, prototype board bring-up and de-bugging, PCB/system level testing, and management of PCB suppliers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering analysis of difficult scope with limited supervision
  • You will be responsible for the verification and troubleshooting of firmware/embedded software specific to each sensor
  • Work closely with microcontroller developers, algorithm developers and system SW and HW engineers to deliver a complete system monitoring and closed loop control
  • Test, debug, repair, and modify a range of PCBs, embedded firmware and system to support various sensors development.
  • Support testing and debug effort of the product in prototype and production.
  • Participate in schematic/layout/bom review for new electrical design and continuous improvement designs
  • Develop and implement a pass/fail test criteria and test procedure of micro-controller boards and other PCBs at the supplier site
  • Provide timely status updates and proactive communications on issues to the stakeholders.

The candidate selected for this position will possess and demonstrate the following skills, education and experience, as detailed below:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Must have 5+ years of experience designing complex PCBs with analog and digital components.
  • Knowledge and experience of embedded firmware development a big plus
    • Experience in C/C++ programming for embedded systems is preferred
    • Previous experience designing embedded systems - experience integrating FPGA’s is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of schematic design tools (ie Orcad) and simulation tools (ie Spice).
  • Experience with medium volume manufacturing, PCBA, bring-up, testing and shipping.
  • Experience in testing and debugging of optical systems/optoelectronic assemblies and prior experience working with a range of detectors and light sources such as PDs, IR, LEDs, and related assemblies a big plus.
  • Experience troubleshooting with Electrical Equipment (Oscilloscopes, Power Supplies, DMMs, etc).
  • Strong communications skills, organizational skills and sense of collaboration.
  • Knowledge of serial interfaces and peripherals (I2S, I2C, SPI, ADCs, DACs).
  • Knowledge of Industrial communication standards like RS232, Device Net, Ether CAT would be a plus.
  • Flexible, motivated, self-driven, with the ability to work with remote teams.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such Python.
  • Disciplined and well-organized in software and firmware documentation and presentation.
  • Excellent analytical skills, methodical problem-solving skills and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to meet objectives, goals and deadlines with minimal supervision.
