We have an immediate opening for a Lead PIC (Process Information Controls) Technical Sales Engineer in the Honeywell UOP’s Equipment Technical Sales team within our UOP Process Technology (UPT) group. Focusing on UOP’s proprietary control system
in PIC and PSA product lines. This position is accountable for leading technical sales activities for the offering of highly-specialized control system for various Honeywell UOP process units. From proposal development to sale, the Lead Technical Sales Engineer understands customer needs and requirement, develops cost and schedule estimates, deliver proposals, and provides technical and commercial expertise. This position will assure that assigned proposal activities meet a high standard of quality and accuracy and meet promise dates for the required deliverables. Position located in Des Plaines, IL, USA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all sales support activities to offer UOP PIC and PSA Control solution to meet customer needs. Be the
    focal point for UPT TSE group on all technical sales activities and on ensuring that Project Execution is positioned
    for a successful PIC Controls equipment supply.
  • Work with other functions (Sales, Product Marketing, Engineering, Project Execution, Service, Training, etc.) to
    determine UOP PIC Controls Equipment offering strategies, develop customer value propositions, and supply
    complete package proposals.
  • Review of customer Request for Quotation package, commercial terms and conditions, and customer
    specifications and standards; and, establish promise dates for the required deliverables.
  • Develop cost estimates, cash flow models, technical and commercial proposals, exception and clarification lists
    and cost of compliance to customer specifications. Provide proposal deliverables in time to meet customer needs.
  • Provide technical and commercial expertise, and participate in meetings including customer visits and
    presentations, proposal clarification meetings, project kick off meetings, and Factory Acceptance Tests.
  • Assist Sales with negotiations and closing deals, and review of purchase documentations.
  • Maintain and improve tools (technical and commercial proposal template, cost estimating template, cost
    database and sales collaterals (customer presentation, technical data sheets, etc.).
  • Support new product development, new product introductions, and existing product improvements.
  • Support development and implementation of product supply-chain strategy and work process improvement.
  • Coordinate with Sales to provide accurate forecasting of opportunities and regular updates on opportunity status. Engage in customer-facing activities

  • Develop and champion best-in-class sales training
  • Coordinate engineering support of pursuits
  • Provide data for sales collateral


  • BS in Engineering
  • Minimum of 7 years experience of project execution, sales support, or business development
    in refining, petrochemical or gas processing areas.


  • EPC background in refining, petrochemical or gas processing, specifically within Controls and Automation area
  • Experience in sales, sales support, engineering, project management, process operations or technical service role
    within refining, petrochemical and gas processing industry
  • Willingness to expand comfort zone to build skills in unfamiliar equipment offerings
  • Proven ability to deliver on complex situations or problems without guidance or supervision
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated ability to meet customer deadlines
  • Strong negotiation skills in both internal and external customer interactions
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and foster strong customer relationships
  • In-depth knowledge of Honeywell and competitor platforms, products and technologies
  • Experience in technical writing and preparation of proposals
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Familiarity with industry regulatory requirements and future mandates
  • Ability to achieve results through influence in a matrixed-team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively across language and cultural barriers
