Budget and Finance Team: The Budget and Finance Team within the SC Johnson College of Business supports strategic and transactional financial operations across our three schools, our central college unit and the Statler Hotel across our two campuses in Ithaca and NYC. This team consists of individuals who take a progressive approach to financial planning and reporting, utilizing data-driven techniques and tools to support our College's mission and enhance our organizational effectiveness. The Controller Opportunity at the Statler Hotel: Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Finance of the SC Johnson College of Business, the Statler Hotel Controller serves as a key financial advisor to the Hotel General Manager and the Hotel Leadership Team overseeing a budget of approximately $20M. This position is chiefly responsible for the Hotel's Finance department, a team of four direct reports, which oversees timely and accurate reporting of financial information for the Statler Hotel in accordance with the SC Johnson College of Business policy, University's accounting policies, and the Hospitality Industry's Uniform System of Accounts. Main responsibilities for the Hotel Controller include oversight of the production of monthly financial statements, completion of the Hotel's annual budget/reforecast, monthly forecasts, financial analysis of hotel operations, and overall supervision of the Hotel Finance team. This position is highly collaborative in nature working closely to inform the leadership of Statler Hotel, the Nolan School and the SC Johnson College of Business on capital projects, risk assessment and financial operations related to the Statler Hotel. Additionally, the Hotel Controller is responsible for insuring a sound internal control structure for the Hotel's financial and procurement operations and for partnering with IT to insure the Hotel financial systems are working effectively and efficiently within those controls. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with an accounting focus. A minimum of 5 years of experience in financial planning, budgeting, reporting and analysis. A minimum of 2-3 years of demonstrated success leading and managing others. Highly developed accounting, analytical and reporting skills, which include demonstrated experience utilizing spreadsheets, databases and complex data applications (Excel, Sun Systems, Longview, Brio). Ability to independently plan and prioritize responsibilities to meet competing deadlines while working under pressure. Demonstrated proficiency with other Microsoft applications such as Outlook and Word as well as accounting systems. Superior customer service and communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, confidently and concisely both in written and verbal formats to a wide variety of constituents. Priority to uphold ethical and code of conduct standards of Cornell University and the SC Johnson College of Business. Maintains adequate and appropriate documentation of work and data sources. Preferred Qualifications: Hospitality industry experience, familiarity with the Uniform System of Accounts, and Certified Public Accountant and/or Certified Hospitality Account Executive designations strongly preferred. Familiarity with the CU administrative systems, including financial, payroll/time collection, and budget system is desirable.
