Overview

The Portfolio Accountant performs the primary accounting and support functions for the corporate General Ledger (G/L) for the REIT Portfolio Accounting group. This position requires coordination with the Director and Manager of REIT Accounting and other cross functional groups, including: other portfolio accounting teams, property accounting, accounts payable, treasury and corporate accounting. The Portfolio Accountant reports to the Manager, REIT Accounting.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare, generate and review financial reports and supporting workpapers monthly, quarterly and annually on a GAAP basis. Analyze results.
  • Maintain the general ledger and prepare/review journal entries and general ledger account analysis.
  • Prepare debt covenants as stipulated in the applicable agreements.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of REIT SEC filings and related public disclosures. Assist external auditors during their review of REIT public filings.
  • Preparation of accounting memos and assistance with other technical matters.
  • Assist in the internal audit process, including updating internal control policies and testing.
  • Maintain the cash forecast and monitor REIT cash requirements.
  • Facilitate corporate G&A payments.
  • Facilitate the calculation and payment of corporate G&A expenses due to RMR.
  • Perform special projects as needed and provide support to senior management. Support the REIT team as needed.
  • Strive to identify areas where procedures and efficiencies can be improved.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with 3.0 minimum GPA.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Proficiency with Property Management/Accounting software. Yardi preferred.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word and other Windows applications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborate and results-driven environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify areas of process improvement opportunities.
  • Willingness to complete daily responsibilities and any special projects with high accuracy and timeliness.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and verbal and written communication skills.
