Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Utica University, a comprehensive, independent, private institution in Upstate New York, is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide high quality, team-based, psychiatric mental health care services to a diverse student population.

Primary responsibilities include :

Direct Student Care:

Provide compassionate, quality-driven mental health care while meeting the needs of students in their current condition.

Provide direct student care.

Provide evaluations and assessments, treatment and/or proper referral while maintaining expected medical standards as well as psychiatric medication management services.

Evaluate students in a timely and courteous manner, using a student-centered approach.

Familiar with and follow State of NY reporting requirements for mandatory reporting.

Maintain confidentiality of client care and agency operations at all times.

Function as an advocate for students, particularly those with fewer economic and social resources and those from marginalized populations.

Incorporates a social justice, equity, and inclusion lens to all aspects of work.

Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance:

Participate and provide leadership for quality improvement and assurance activities throughout Health & Counseling Services and Utica University.

Appropriately document medical care in the electronic health database.

Follow mental health practice guidelines; including preventative services, education, and chronic disease management.

Participate in quality improvement programs that will assure that students receive quality care in the office using peer review, medical record audits and other mechanisms as appropriate.

Understand the role in incident reporting, emergency preparedness and the organizational safety plan in order to promote student and staff safety.

Follow appropriate infection control procedures and use personal protective equipment as appropriate.

Remain current on all required training.

Perform all other duties, as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Three years of clinical experience as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

Possess a valid and current New York State Advanced Practice Nurse license allowing independent practice or ability to obtain a license in 90 days from acceptance.

Current DEA license.

Ability to be credentialed and contractible on insurance plans (as needed).

License/Certifications: Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program with current Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
