LinQuest Corporation is seeking a Senior Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) Architect to join our team in El Segundo, CA.

This position is nominally full time (part-time may be considered upon request), requiring availability for on-site access to LA AFB as needed with remote flexibility.

This position works for the Space Systems Command (SSC) Space Systems Integration Office (SSC/ZA) to focus on developing government reference and portfolio level architectures aligned with future USSF force design and enabling enterprise level interoperability and flexibility. The candidate shall provide systems engineering, MBSE, and road mapping support to shape the future of the United States Space Force (USSF) Enterprise Architecture. The candidate shall work side by side with SSC personnel in the performance of engineering tasks applying critical thinking concerning solutions to current threat environments for National Security Space (NSS) customers. Experience with Digital Engineering, including MBSE, is required to support USSF objective of being the first “digital force.” Experience in cross-domain architectures is desired to meet the goal of SSC/ZA’s cross-enterprise architecting and analysis efforts, providing high quality decision support products to the SSC and USSF senior decision makers for the space acquisition enterprise.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Systems of Systems (SoS) Engineering Management functionality guided by the SSC Chief Engineer or equivalent - this will provide for the SSC Director’s technical oversight of all processes and products within SSC
  • Conduct SoS engineering management “analysis” and provide the “control” of SSC engineering processes to ensure disciplined processes are in place and pedigreed and highly credible products are being generated within SSC
  • Using MBSE, perform cross-mission area architecture development through the identification of potential synergies and efficiencies across multiple mission areas based on existing roadmaps and System Program Directorate developed to-be architectures
  • Using MBSE, develop candidate functional, logical architectures that resolve common functions into common/enterprise solutions and reduce the cost associated with acquiring and maintaining multiple systems to achieve the same function and promote the use of common standards
  • Support defining strategic and operational-level strategy, developing associated architectures, and executing analysis processes to enable risk-informed investment decisions across the NSS enterprise to enable continued application of joint warfighter and National Command Authority effects in, through, and from space
  • Apply DOD architecture, style guide, and Digital engineering policies, principles, and instructions and support development of portfolio level DE guidance within SSC to facilitate alignment and synchronization of separately developed and managed DE baselines
  • Analyze space enterprise future “enterprise” and “portfolio” requirements and alignment to the functional/ logical/ data architecture and standards.
  • Evaluate and characterize the known trade-space and ensure requirements mapping of newly developed enterprise-level cross-mission area architectures
  • Prepare briefings, reports, trip reports, or papers as appropriate to lead stakeholder discussions, document meetings, or document evaluation findings and recommendations

Required Skills/ Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Three (3) years MBSE experience (e.g. working with Sparx EA and/or Cameo models)
  • Twelve (12) years total experience in space systems and national security, with a focus in systems engineering and MBSE
  • Extensive experience in systems engineering, systems of systems engineering, family of systems engineering, architectures, or road mapping for NSS systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and participate in requirements and interface development as part of the systems engineering, architecting, and integration process
  • Effective interpersonal and team-building skills, to engage at both the engineer and management levels to build confidence and collaboration
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communications
  • Must have an active TS/SCI clearance to be considered for the position

Preferred Skills/ Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), or equivalent Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
  • Five (5) years MBSE experience, including advanced applications of MBSE / DE capabilities with knowledge and formation of all SysML diagram types employing Cameo and/or Sparx EA
  • Familiarity with MS Project and OnePagerPro
  • Ability to plan and implement a multi-year level of effort for MBSE / DE support to high visibility customers
  • Experience working directly as an interface with military and other government representatives, FFRDC (e.g. Aerospace) representatives, and SSC’s prime contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors
  • DOD program office experience with understanding of DOD acquisition process and compliance with government instructions
  • Experience with technical mentorship
  • Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP) Level 1/2
