What You Will Do

Come join our dynamic team in the Biochemistry and Biotechnology group and work on exciting, high impact research projects! We are looking for a candidate who is intellectually curious, collaborative and communicative. The ideal candidate will use display technologies to select affinity reagents (e.g., antibodies, peptides, etc.) for novel therapeutic and/or diagnostic applications, and for generating machine learning training sets to develop cutting edge computational models.

You are expected to: design and execute experiments independently; develop new protocols; work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams; keep impeccable records of experimental procedures, data, and results; mentor students and technicians; present and discuss results; write reports; prepare manuscripts for publication.

At Los Alamos National Laboratory, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary group of scientists whose work serves the nation by developing science and technology to reduce natural and deliberate threats to human and animal populations, their way of life, and the global environment.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in a relevant STEM field such as Molecular biology, Biology, Bioengineering, etc. within the last 5 years.
  • High proficiency in cloning, general molecular biology techniques, and microbiology.
  • Strong background in protein characterization using a variety of assays (ELISA, SPR, flow cytometry, etc.)
  • Hands on experience with yeast culturing and phage amplification.
  • Strong publication record (e.g., 3 to 4 publications from PhD research).
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in the English language.
  • Excellent record keeping and sample cataloging.
  • Ability and eagerness to work in a collaborative team environment.

Desired but not Essential Skills:
  • Experience with yeast and/or phage display technologies.
  • Practical knowledge of flow cytometry.
  • Knowledge of various deep sequencing platforms (e.g. PacBio, MySeq, Nanopore MinION, iSeq, etc.)
  • Knowledge of machine learning architectures
  • Experience with training machine learning algorithms on biological/chemical datasets
  • Experience working on interdisciplinary teams and with multi-institution collaborations

Exceptional candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Dianne Christian Hoffman, Richard P. Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines Fellowships.

    Bioscience Division (B) comprises a diverse group of experimentalists and computer scientists who work closely with other interdisciplinary scientists across the Laboratory.     Additional Details

    Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2.     Q Clearance: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

    *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
