Job Description

Weyerhaeuser is seeking a Production Superintendent to support our Plymouth Wood Products facility, in Eastern North Carolina. The position is a full-time, exempt position and reports to the Unit Manager.

The Plymouth operation is a random-length saw mill, producing lumber used in residential construction. Whether you enjoy proximity to college activities/sports, outdoor recreational activities, historic landmarks, arts/entertainment or shopping, the Plymouth area offers excellent options in recreation, relaxation, and entertainment.

As a (Green Side) Production Superintendent, you are a key member of the Plymouth leadership team. You will be responsible for managing processes in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, costs, and continuous improvement in the green lumber manufacturing, from the log deck to the stacker. Additionally, you will lead the team by proactively resolving employee issues in a union environment, building team-work, and ensuring adherence to all applicable site policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.

Key Functions
  • Role model safety standards and on-the-job behavior by living Weyerhaeuser core principles of integrity, fairness, creating a positive work environment, and ensuring open communication among associates
  • Actively lead and participate in the plant safety program including implementing, managing and enforcing safety policies, procedures, practices and projects
  • Optimize your functional area including production, scheduling, and asset utilization
  • Control and improve productivity and reduce/manage costs
  • Manage the daily activities of the facility to meet unit goals (metric and financial)
  • Lead the planning of production activities and budgets and coordinate maintenance activities with the maintenance team
  • Ensure the effective management and development of the work force
  • Fully utilize performance management tools for leadership growth and development
  • Participate in the development of capital and project plans and activities as well as annual plan (budget)


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Forestry, Business, Industrial Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Demonstrated experience in safely leading manufacturing processes, preventive maintenance and productivity/cost process improvements
  • At least 2 years' experience in lumber or wood products manufacturing preferred
  • At least 5 years' leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication skills--oral, presentation, written, and listening
  • Ability to effectively work and coordinate activities within all levels of the organization
  • Excellent planning, organizing, prioritizing, time management and delegation skills
  • Experience and proven ability to lead teams and promote a culture of trust and collaboration
  • Excellent interpersonal skills--conflict management, coaching, supportive feedback, and problem solving
  • Strong mechanical and technical knowledge
  • Demonstrated track record of success in a complex and fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Desire to develop towards higher levels of responsibility within Weyerhaeuser
