Requisition Number: F_220022 Department: Animal Science-0830 Description of Work: The Department of Animal Science within the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources ( IANR ) at University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking applicants for an open rank, tenure-leading/tenured position in Theoretical Quantitative Genetics. This position will contribute to the integrated research and teaching land-grant mission of IANR , as effective scholar and citizen, including supporting student recruitment and IANR science literacy. Research 70% This position will contribute to a team effort focusing on genetic improvement of livestock populations. This person will be expected to lead a nationally and internationally recognized research program in theoretical quantitative genetics. Research may include development of theory and methods integrating genomic and phenotypic information addressing both additive and non-additive genetic variation. Research opportunities may include the development of methodologies to discover and exploit epistatic and dominance effects in the development of genomic predictors, methods of enhancing the accuracy of genomic predictors in crossbred and multi-breed populations and expanding methodologies for the analysis of high-density genotype and sequence data. This person will have access to large, unique UNL populations of beef and swine. Collaboration with the US Meat Animal Research Center using large phenotyped populations of cattle and swine is expected and encouraged. Collaborative research across departments (e.g, Agronomy, Statistics) is also expected and encouraged. Research responsibilities will include development of a successful research program, with publications in refereed journals, a strong record of extramural grant funding, and supervision of graduate students and post-doctoral associates. Teaching 30% Must be strongly committed to undergraduate and graduate teaching. Teaching responsibilities will include graduate level courses in advanced quantitative genetics. Specific teaching responsibilities could include undergraduate Animal Breeding, graduate Population Genetics, and development of graduate courses in whole-genome enables selection, mixed-model prediction and other advanced quantitative genetics courses that fit the expertise and interest of the successful candidate. This position is also expected to develop a strong mentoring program for graduate students. Opportunities also exist for mentoring of undergraduate student research projects. As a College of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources ( CASNR ) faculty member, the successful candidate is also expected to participate in teaching-related activities outside of the classroom. These activities include enhancing science literacy of the public, undergraduate recruitment, and placement and advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the individual will be expected to accept committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and/or university level. See . Minimum Required Qualifications: PhD with emphasis in quantitative genetics. Strong training in statistics. Preferred Qualifications: Postdoctoral and/or independent research. Experience in genome-wide association analysis. Ability to integrate high-density genotype or sequence data sets. Ability to identify genetic variation that influenced complex traits. An understanding of theoretical and computational methodology used in the analysis of quantitative and molecular data for genetic prediction. Programming skills with multiple computer languages.
