Overview

Systems Engineer Power and Propulsion

The Integrated Power System Directorate supports development of platforms for the All Electric Navy. This technology is focused on electric drive propulsion, electric power generation, and advanced power systems. This technology is part of the continuing trend in making ships more electric, more capable, and more affordable. The Integrated Power System Electric Plant Modeling and Analysis group responsibilities support submarine system and component performance and the overall capability of the platform to achieve its mission. This support is specialized in power electronics, digital signal processing, embedded controls, electric machines, linear and non-linear system theory, computer modeling and analysis, and power system protections to help integrate these technologies into submarines. Specific expertise in the area of non-linear, dynamic analysis of solid state power systems, including stability, transient, and frequency domain analysis, as well as analysis of medium voltage distribution systems that are novel to submarine electrical system applications are required.

What youll be doing:
  • Supporting the design, development, and analysis of submarine electrical systems
  • Reviewing and managing custom power system interface specifications
  • Developing system-level performance predictions via simulation
  • Performing analysis of power electronics and machines via simulation
  • Supporting equipment and system tests
  • Providing Analysis and solutions to problems discovered during testing
  • Analyzing test data to support requirement validation
  • Recommending design changes for customer approval

This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Responsibilities

What wed like to see:
  • Experience or education related to fault analysis and protection.
  • Experience or educated related to control systems
  • Experience using MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with data processing and analysis
  • Effective communication skills and initiative
  • Advanced degrees desired

Qualifications

Required
  • Minimum of a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related program
  • Coursework in electromagnetics, power electronics, digital signal processing, or power systems
  • 0 -4 years of related work experience
