Requisition Number: F_220005 Department: Cooperative Ext Division-0788 Description of Work: Overview: Based in North Platte, NE, and located at the West Central Research, Extension, and Education Center ( ENREEC ), this position is part of a team of Agricultural Economists working throughout Nebraska addressing issues of local, regional, and statewide importance to ranchers and farmers. This is a 12-month, non-tenured position. The Educator has primary responsibilities for developing and delivering a coordinated, proactive and effective extension program in Nebraska in livestock and crop production system economics, that:  a) improves profitability and sustainability; b) enhances resiliency to cyclical swings in production input costs and market prices.;  c) expands producer awareness and confidence in using risk and strategic management tools; and d) assists livestock and crop producers in applying financial management and marketing strategies that will enable them to improve their economic decision making. The incumbent is an active participant in developing solution-based scholarly resources as a member of the state-wide Agricultural Economics/Farm and Ranch Management team and a key member of the Center for Agriculture Profitability ( CAP ). Program Responsibilities (approximately 80%): As Extension Educator – Agricultural Systems Economist: Develops, delivers, and measures impacts of programs and engagements that integrate economic, financial/risk management, marketing, and policy aspects of decision-making that increase the profitability and resiliency of Nebraska livestock and crop production systems. Actively participates in the Center for Agricultural Profitability ( CAP ), addressing short and long-term issues focused on economic viability of livestock and crop operations and other timely issues where outcomes would benefit from an agricultural economics component. Collaborates closely in a multi-disciplinary team environment with colleagues across academic units, state and federal agencies, industry representatives, and livestock and crop producers, delivering programming in livestock and crop production system economics that optimize profitability and improve probability of success of these operations. Participates in collection and interpretation of data to develop decision tools and management strategies for clientele that are focused on innovative and emerging trends in agricultural production systems. Uses innovative strategies and cutting-edge teaching and learning methods to design, develop, deliver and evaluate programs for a robust extension education program focused on economic dimensions of livestock and cropping production systems within the assigned geographic region, and as a member of the statewide agricultural economics team. Engages in a collaborative-learning environment with livestock and crop producers, partners with faculty in applied research efforts, and encourages adoption of research-based information in decision-making. Identifies needs and provides access to educational opportunities within the assigned geographic region, working to include underserved or under-represented populations in agriculture in educational programming. Uses entrepreneurial practices to secure grants, contracts, program fees, and partnerships to leverage the extension educational program's resource base and to extend the reach and impact of these programs. Conducts needs assessments, identifies priorities, measures program impact, and reports results at professional meetings, in professional publications, and other scholarly outlets. Participates in professional development to enhance and maintain professional expertise in agricultural economics and extension pedagogy/andragogy. Organizational Citizenship (approximately 20%):   Serve in, contribute to, or support the Academic/Administrative Unit.  Coordinate with Unit Head/Director/Program Leaders and other Extension professionals, on campus and statewide as appropriate, to develop a robust Nebraska Extension presence.  Cooperate with faculty and staff in a team environment to promote Extension's educational opportunities and impact in the Academic/Administrative Unit and statewide.   Cultivate a culture of collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders that builds positive relationships between the University and our partners.  Support engagement of advisory or policy groups such as Unit Advisory Committees, Program Advisory Committees, and others as appropriate.  Understand and adhere to Equal Employment Opportunities; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Civil Rights compliance efforts.   In addition to the above-described duties, the individual will be expected to accept committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and/or university level. See .  Minimum Required Qualifications: Master's degree in agricultural economics or closely related field.  Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders in writing, orally, and via online media. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of the development and use of enterprise budgeting techniques, farm and ranch production recordkeeping, or financial management systems.  Familiarity with livestock or crop production systems in Nebraska. Experience teaching in a formal or non-formal setting, for students, adults, and/or stakeholders focused on the economics of agricultural production Understanding of different ethnic and socioeconomic audiences or a commitment to developing and delivering both inclusive and targeted programming to assist underserved audiences. Understanding of or experience of developing and delivering extension programs focused on farm management issues. Job Type: 12 Month (Faculty Only)
