Job Description

New hires based in the US & Puerto Rico will be required to demonstrate that they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or qualify for a medical or religious exemption or accommodation to this vaccination requirement, subject to applicable law.

Under the general supervision of a senior staff member in Center for Mathematical Sciences (CMS), the Associate Principal Scientist | Statistician is accountable for the statistical analysis and evaluation of data to meet the needs of our Manufacturing Division, and through consultation with employees and teams, provide statistical expertise on experimental design, and the evaluation and interpretation of data. The successful candidate will evaluate data for submission to regulatory agencies and pharmacopoeia and may also serve on various company task agencies and outside industry groups as appropriate.

Additional Key Tasks

  • Objectively collects, organizes, and summarizes data for projects | Conducts basic statistical analyses such as ANOVA models, process capability and control, linear regression, ANCOVA for stability studies | Generates a wide variety of statistical graphics adapted to the need of the statistical project | Objectively applies basic and advanced statistical techniques and graphics and recognizes the need for more sophisticated methods | Develops or adapts sophisticated techniques to meet the needs of specific projects

  • Writes or adapts basic statistical programs to initiate evaluations to create graphics | Implement simulations for random sampling to obtain numerical results (e.g. Monte Carlo techniques)

  • Mentors junior staff members in the application of basic and advanced methods and graphics | Prepares and conducts training courses and seminars throughout our division to familiarize scientists and management personnel in the comprehension of statistical techniques and methods

  • Proposes design of experiments and study plans through consultation with our division's personnel and teams | Contributes to the generation of objectives and hypotheses to be evaluated via statistical studies

  • Prepares verbal and written reports to effectively convey study designs and the interpretation of studies

  • Conducts second person reviews of the formal reports of other CMS members | Conducts data verifications to ensure compliance with auditing standards for all data investigated for a project that results in a second person reviewed report | Reviews literature and attends appropriate seminars and classes to develop and maintain the necessary skill levels | Contributes talks to professional society and/or industry meetings | Stays well informed of the advances made in statistics as well as the field of computer applications and brings the relevant advances into departmental practices

  • Participates as a full member on internal teams providing statistical expertise | Evaluates the impact of new regulatory proposals to our company's operations


  • BS with > 15 years industry knowledge or MS with > 10 years industry knowledge or PhD with > 5 years industry knowledge

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ethical and expansive technical skills, including design of experiments, linear and nonlinear models, and univariate/multivariate statistical process control

  • Honorable and effective statistical computing skills with substantial knowledge in at least two of the following statistical software packages: SAS, R/S-Plus, JMP, Minitab

  • Moral verbal and written communication skills to convey statistical concepts and investigates to non-statisticians

  • Resourcefulness and the ability to develop and implement innovative and new concepts/ideas

  • Managing and initiating change

  • Influence, ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously with directional priorities

  • Direct cross-functional teams effectively, motivate people, delegate appropriately and resolve conflicts
