Job Summary:

We are looking for Technical Lead for a software development team who can run an agile software process. The successful candidate will drive product development to further grow the strategic position of Molecular Devices Significant technical and/or management development opportunities exist to increase the understanding of modern scientific research instrumentation, optimize workflows and work with experienced and successful agile engineering teams. 

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Lead an agile software team through the software development lifecycle, including planning, design, development, testing, and release of changes to scientific research software applications 
  • Set cross-functional project technical milestones and lead team to meet commitments  

  • Monitor and maintain development velocity toward project commitments 

  • Coordinate with Project Manager to track, mitigate, and report project progress, risks and issues 

  • Coordinate with Product Owner to ensure user story descriptions are translated to features that meet customer needs 

  • Coordinate with Software Architect to ensure designs are implemented to specification 

  • Coordinate with Software Testers to ensure product meets quality targets 

  • Create solutions using a mix of new and existing technologies to meet customer and business needs 

  • Represent the software function on a cross-functional project core team  

  • Communicate new insights and ideas effectively, verbally and in writing, with a cross-functional team 

Qualifications:
  • University degree (Bachelor of Science degree minimum) in engineering, life science, biology, microbiology or related subject 

  • 12+ years of experience in software product development including 3+ years leading software development teams 

  • Proficiency in software engineering best practices 

  • Proven ability to research, design and develop high-quality Windows desktop software applications 

  • Proven ability to deliver projects on-time and to specification 

 

Bonus Skills:  

 

  • Prefer experience with C++, C#, .NET, Angular, WPF, MFC 

  • Plus if experience with REST, Node.js, WebSocket, Python 

  • Plus if experience with Visual Studio, Jira, Git, JetBrains tools (TeamCity, PyCharm, WebStorm, ReSharper, Upsource) 

  • Plus if experience leading a team of engineers, developing resource plans and timelines 

  • Plus if experienced in product development and customer workflows for life science research market, and knowledge in the development of scientific and life sciences instruments 

Plus if hands-on experience of software or instrumentation engineering for life science
