What You'll Do:
Responsible for promoting and maintaining a safety-oriented environment on-site at select Dedicated accounts. Works to support the Driver, Safety and Dedicated in achieving customer satisfaction and driver retention.
  • Monitors utilization of all account equipment i.e. reseating, equipment moves, rollers, racks, etc.
  • Counsels driver on rider policy and pet policy.
  • Ensures that drivers receive necessary training & document training - i.e. account orientation, rollover training, rollers, hazmat, etc.
  • Works with customers to identify opportunities related to loss time injuries including load quality audits, roller training, etc.
  • Gives Drivers initial on-site backing test followed by 30/60/90 day backing tests.
  • Attends any events held by dedicated customer showing appreciation.
  • Reviews all safety issues with Field Safety Supervisor. Determines if drivers need additional training and makes necessary arrangements.
  • Works with the Driver on all safety issues, including logs and other safety related matters. This can include level A events captured on the event recorders.
  • Coaches Drivers on remedial training issues.
  • Provides claims support as needed.
  • Enforces all customer site and delivery site rules and regulations.
  • Promotes the use of the USX intranet and assists drivers in learning how to use it as part of Orientation and as needed for training.
  • Monitors driver logs; Works closely with drivers having problems with hours of service to promote compliance. Makes every effort to make sure drivers are not suspended due to non-compliance with logs.
  • Performs weekly audits for Safety and Workers comp compliance.
  • Retrains any drivers not in compliance and provides feedback to the Field Safety Supervisor for follow up.
  • Leads Safety Meetings as scheduled.
  • Performs random truck inspections weekly.
  • Maintains on-site safety board.
  • Incumbent must complete U.S. Xpress Professional Driving Program once a year.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by Safety Department.

What We're Looking For:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience
    • Must be at least 21 years old.
    • Minimum of 3 years continuous driving experience required.

    • Class-A CDL (Interstate) and active Medical Certification required.
    • Knowledge of DOT regulations impacting daily operations including Hours of Service regulations, OSHA, CSA scoring, Federal, and state laws pertaining to driving a tractor trailer.
    • Must be able to read and interpret all road and traffic signs. Must also be able to read and understand routing directions when using a road map or other communication system. Must be able to read and speak English.
    • Must be able to operate motor vehicle during high traffic situations.
    • Must have skills necessary to operate a tractor trailer, practice defensive driving, and the ability to load and unload freight as may be required. Must remain in compliance with all applicable DOT requirements.
    • General knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
    • Good written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
    • General knowledge of how to operate a pallet jack.

    • Ability to lift and lower up to 50 pounds must be able to carry 50 pounds, must be able to push up to 50 pounds, and pull up to 120 pounds. (70# for accounts requiring the dedicated PST).
    • Ability to stand and completely balance on full body weight while entering and exiting the tractor/trailer.
    • Ability to frequently walk 200 feet during the workday.
    • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time while operating the vehicle.
    • Must be able to reach all vehicle controls for operation and all equipment for pre-trip inspections.
    • Must be able to handle and finger all vehicle controls for operation and all equipment for pre-trip inspections, maintain a constant and firm grip, and perform frequent fine hand manipulation.
    • Ability to reach across midline and crouch or squat to a minimum height of 44" at a 6" length.
    • Must be able to crawl under a minimum height of 44" during pre-trip inspections.
    • Must be able to maintain, balance on level and un-level ground and at elevations.
    • Must be able to stoop and kneel while performing pre-trip inspections.
    • Ability to climb 12" stairs using a handrail to enter and exit the terminal.
    • Ability to climb up to 24" and pull full body weight while entering and exiting the trailer.
    • Ability to enter and exit the truck while on the dock or on a ramp.
    • Ability to make quick rational decisions and have full and constant use of arms, hands, legs and feet while performing driving tasks such as turning, slowing, braking, passing, backing and parking the vehicle.

    Work Environment / Physical Requirements - Normal office settings.
