We are looking for a Data Protection Architect to join our Security Architecture team as a technical leader to drive the maturation of data protection and privacy solutions and disciplines at Los Alamos National Laboratory. It is our team's mission to provide oversight for the institution's information system and security architecture through strategic planning and solution development on both classified and unclassified networks.

The Data Protection Architect will contribute to the planning, research, design, and debugging of a robust security architecture for the enterprise. Our team of architects are aligned with security domains (i.e infrastructure and endpoint security, application security, identity and access management, and data protection and privacy) and often work across multiple areas developing their security expertise in their core competency as well as new technologies and disciplines. What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Program Leadership:
Demonstrated experience providing program vision, developing solution strategy and roadmaps, building and defending business cases, planning projects, and leading cross-functional teams in support of modernizing a solution architecture.

Technical Architecture:
Demonstrated experience designing and integrating data protection solutions, data governance, defensive measures, and security controls into an enterprise defense-in-depth architecture while complying with regulatory requirements, governance, and the industry best practices impacting privacy and data protection, such as NIST, COPPA, COBIT, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and U.S. State Data Privacy Laws. This includes experience with the data lifecycle, discovery and classification of data, as well as a knowledge of data exfiltration techniques and mitigations.

Technologies:
Advanced knowledge of enterprise-grade Data Loss Prevention technologies and in at least two of the following areas (data discovery, data monitoring and filtering, secure messaging/email encryption, certificate and key management, information rights management, secure information storage) with the ability to effectively implement modern Data Protection solutions in support of current and future requirements.

Communication:
Outstanding written and oral technical communication skills as evidenced by the ability to provide guidance to diverse teams and managers, successfully communicate to a variety of stakeholders, and document complex technical and procedural information.

Team Dynamics:
Demonstrated ability to independently lead, manage, and/or work as part of a diverse team of technical professionals to support multiple concurrent tasks with changing programmatic priorities.

Education/Experience: Position typically requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Security operations experience involving event analysis and correlation
  • Privacy Impact Assessment experience
  • DevOps, CI/CD, and agile (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Scaled Agile Framework) experience
  • Experience performing gap analysis, threat modeling, and design validation
  • Experience using and securing common enterprise grade on prem and cloud database and data storage platforms
  • Experience leveraging format preserving encryption, data tagging, or data masking
  • Knowledge of cloud architecture and cloud-based data protection solutions
  • Data protection metrics and reporting
  • CISSP certification
  • Strong data and database management background
  • Familiarity with governance and compliance for US federal agencies

Note to Applicants:

  • This position may be required to participate in on-call support or scheduled work outside normal business hours.
  • This position may be eligible for telework but requires the employee to live within a two-hour, ground transport commute radius from the laboratory.

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory's Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. Employee participation in the Telework Pilot may be shortened or extended at the manager's discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
