Historical Collections and Instruction Librarian

Iowa Wesleyan University is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Historical Collections and Instruction Librarian.  This is a full-time, exempt, staff, on-tenure track position to serve as an administrator of the Iowa Wesleyan Historical Collections, including the Newsom Archives and Chadwick Library Special Collections; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and administration to utilize archival materials in coursework, displays, presentations, or other means of promoting items within the collection; maintain and manage digital collections made available via the library’s website; serve as campus historian and liaison to all divisions; provide information literacy instruction and fulfill other duties as assigned; work specified hours providing service at the library’s information desk including some evenings and weekends; maintain and document annual professional development and scholarly activities appropriate for this position. 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop relationships with faculty to promote the use of Historical Collections ephemera in coursework

Offer Historical Collections programming, including class presentations, community speaking engagements, and various other forms of outreach, to the Iowa Wesleyan and Mount Pleasant communities

Troubleshoot access and technical issues with archive equipment, including BookEye Scanner and microfilm/microfiche readers

Deliver one-shot and integrated information literacy sessions

Track and report on Historical Collections usage data for university annual reports as well as annual reporting to IPEDS, ACRL and consortia

Work with the Office of Advancement & Alumni to create promotional materials using archival ephemera

Answer archival questions and requests from interested parties, both internal and external

Submit papers for publication on the history of Iowa Wesleyan, Mount Pleasant, the State of Iowa, or the greater Midwest region

Maintain awareness of trends and on-going developments in areas related to the entire life cycle of e-resources

Ability to create and maintain detailed, accurate documentation for electronic resources and communicates this with the library team

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

American Library Association-accredited master’s degree in Library Science

History degree, or equivalent

Familiarity with library specific information systems and technologies, such as integrated library systems, and content management systems

Commitment and demonstrated ability to cooperate in a team environment and maintain effective and respectful working relationships with all campus personnel

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a strong service orientation

Demonstrated commitment to public service, diversity, and inclusion

Ability to work evening and weekends on a rotating schedule.
