INTERNAL COLLEGE OF PUBLIC HEALTH APPLICANTS ONLY The Associate Dean for Research is responsible for providing leadership to establish and nurture interdisciplinary research collaboration within and outside the College of Public Health. This includes identifying and promoting funding sources to support research and training programs. The Associate Dean position is a 37.5% position working closely with the Dean and senior leadership in all areas related to research and discovery, providing leadership in shaping the college's research policies and practices, in sustaining research standards, and developing effective working relationships within the college and the university in support of research success. This includes keeping current on trends and changes in higher education and effecting changes required for improvement. The Associate Dean will provide collegiate guidance on research matters and collaborate with department heads and faculty to promote new research initiatives. The Associate Dean will collaborate with department heads and center directors to promote career development opportunities and succession planning. Administration: As a member of the Dean's Leadership Team, the Associate Dean will work to fulfill the missions of the college and the university related to research and discovery, including addressing IRB and compliance issues. The Associate Dean will establish and implement a visionary strategic plan that supports the College's research mission and increases its stature and funding. The Associate Dean will ensure the college complies with accreditation criteria related to research and lead the process for accreditation in this area. The Associate Dean will develop and provide collegiate guidance and incentives for student and junior faculty excellence in research. The Associate Dean will build relationships with local, national, and international foundations and funding agencies. The Associate Dean will provide leadership in providing collegiate guidance in all aspects of the research enterprise, including ensuring a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for the college's research enterprise. The Associate Dean will represent the college on relevant university committees and various university task forces related to research and discovery and will keep faculty and staff informed about university-wide research initiatives. This includes attending various university committees and councils at the request of the Dean. Research Council: The Associate Dean will oversee and coordinate the CPH Research Council. The Council's primary functions are: 1) To develop and to facilitate collaborative research and research training within the College; within the University; and outside the University; 2) To identify research training opportunities resulting from and required by the collaborative research; 3) To identify problems or barriers that prevent the advancement of research and research training goals; and 4) To identify innovative public health research initiatives and develop support structures that will advance the strategic goals of the College. Financial: The Associate Dean will provide management and oversight of budgetary matters related to the college's research program and ensure compliance with policies and procedures. The Associate Dean will provide reports on research activity on a monthly basis, or as requested. Student Research Support: The Associate Dean will strengthen student engagement in research. The Associate Dean will support efforts to fund high quality doctoral students, such as T32 training grants or individual F31 grants. This includes facilitating dialogue among faculty and doctoral students. The Associate Dean will serve as the program director for the Principles of Scholarly Integrity program for the college.
