Boeing’s Advanced Design and Prototype Solutions (ADaPS) organization in Huntsville, AL is looking to fill a management position that will lead our mission system modelling and analysis software team.

ADaPS (an organization of over 100 software engineers ) supports programs across the entire portfolio of Boeing products including Space Launch Systems (SLS) Upper Stage, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD - missile defense), Commercial Space Crew Transportation System (CST-100), and Advanced Missile Defense efforts including Patriot Advanced Capability. ADaPS specializes in executing rapid prototyping and development programs utilizing small, responsive Agile teams.  At Boeing we are all innovators on a mission to connect, protect, explore and inspire. This position allows telecommuting and does require applicants to live in either of the listed location option(s):  Huntsville, AL full-time.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages employees and first-level managers performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Software Engineering
  • Develops and executes integrated departmental plans, policies and procedures and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives
  • Acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes
  • Manages, develops and motivates employees and first-level managers

The successful candidate will lead a team of software engineers building high fidelity simulation assets including sensor systems, command and control systems, and rocket systems. The team also builds test assets that are fielded with the system to test it “in place”.  Likewise, the team builds analysis tools to support system performance analysis. The team is incorporating DevOps concepts for continuous integration of components for the entire air and space defense system.

The selected manager will interact with Boeing and Missile Defense Agency (MDA) customers, and will manage personnel to budgets and schedules. The selected manager will ensure requirements are properly developed, designs and architectures include reuse and DevOps principles, software is properly verified and validated, and user objectives are supported.

This position allows limited telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options for much of the week.

This position requires the ability to obtain a Secret US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.  Ability to obtain Secret US Security clearance (Post-Start)

Required Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • This position requires US Citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical/Aerospace Engineering or Physics  or Computer Science or Information Science or Math (or MS in those disciplines)
  • 2 or more years management experience
  • Experience leading 15 or more people on a team
  • Some experience contributing to  a complex space (NASA) or missile defense (MDA) program

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

One or more of the following are desired:

  • Masters in Computer Science, Electrical/Aerospace Engineering or Physics or Math or Information Science
  • An active secret clearance
  • Some experience with ascent analysis, in space flight, GNC (Guidance Navigation and Control) , and/or orbital mechanics technologies/design
  • Some experience in optical or electromagnetic (RF - radio frequency) sensing systems such as Radars, GPS, or Electromagnetic sensors
  • Some type of work experience with software development including Agile processes, and software development of simulations or realtime systems.
  • Some type of work experience or study with DevSecOps principles or tools like GIT repositories and continuous integration techniques.

Typical Education/Experience:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics (e.g. Bachelor) and 2 or more years' related work experience with management.
  • In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard


May be some travel once Covid is relaxed.  (eg. a few times per year in the future)
