Postdoctoral Appointee: Industrial Storage & Process Optimization - Military Veterans

The Manufacturing Analysis Group within CEEESA in the Energy Systems Division at Argonne is looking for a postdoctoral appointee to conduct research and analysis in the area of industrial storage, with a focus on use-phase and end-of-life analysis, process design and optimization of storage-integrated manufacturing. Specific areas of interest include virtual storage from grid-integrated manufacturing, industrial thermal energy pathways, hybrid energy & entro-chemical systems, as well as recycling for industry-relevant storage technologies.

The selected candidate will combine knowledge of thermal, electrochemical and chemical process engineering with computational modeling, and where applicable, machine learning and data-analytic tools for analysis, process modeling, scaling and techno-economic optimization relevant to target applications. The candidate will communicate impactful research outcomes through internal and DOE reports, peer-reviewed publications, and conference presentations. The candidate may also support other related projects within the team's portfolio.

Position Requirements
  • PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or any relevant engineering and computational sciences field.
  • Experience with scientific computation, with a focus on process modeling and mathematical optimization.
  • Experience with electrochemistry, chemical conversions, and techno-economic analysis.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills at all levels of the organization.
  • 0-3 years of experience.
