Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position Summary As second-in-command of University Advancement Programs, the Assistant Vice Chancellor is the most senior staff member reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor and will assist the Associate Vice Chancellor with the strategic management and oversight of the Danforth Campus schools and other university-wide programs. The Assistant Vice Chancellor will have responsibility for the day-to-day management and operations of Parent Engagement and Advancement, Student Affairs Advancement, Brown School Advancement, Sam Fox School Advancement and School of Law Advancement. The Assistant Vice Chancellor acts as a liaison between University Advancement and the Dean or Directors of the programs. Further, the Assistant Vice Chancellor will manage and support infrastructure for these programs including budgets, human resources, reporting mechanisms, and dissemination of information to enhance productivity and drive results in the annual, major and principal gift areas. The Assistant Vice Chancellor also work closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor to manage campaign planning, program development, including managing a personal portfolio of major and principal gift level prospects. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities Provide leadership and strategic direction to five programs: Brown School of Social Work Advancement. Law School Advancement. Parent Engagement and Advancement. Student Affairs Advancement. Sam Fox School Advancement.   Develop, manage, and mentor a team of fundraisers and appropriate administrative staff, with each fundraiser being responsible for an active portfolio of prospects. Serve as a resource for developing effective prospect strategies, execution of moves, closing gifts, and stewardship. Lead by example and inspire others to action. Ensure that fundraising managers are effective and maximizing resources to mobilize a talented staff in engaging a diverse group of alumni, parents, and friends. Supervise budget during year while making recommendations for changes that will support a growing organization. Develop and maintain a comprehensive and detailed level of knowledge of the objectives for each of the assigned programs, as well as other university-wide efforts such as the financial aid initiative, and effectively communicate those objectives and methods of reaching the objectives to the team. Personally cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of major gift and principal gift level prospects (alumni, parents and friends) in St. Louis and in other assigned areas nationally and internationally as needed. Serve on select taskforce and standing committees with University Advancement and across the University as appropriate. Work with Associate Vice Chancellor and Executive Director to enhance communication and create a strong sense of team and camaraderie among University Advancement Programs staff while ensuring they have the infrastructure and support to focus on priorities and become increasingly more productive. Assist with the development of UAP Senior team meetings and retreats; UAP Quarterly all-staff meetings. Implement the UA mechanisms and systems to define performance expectations, measure staff performance, assure accountability, and remediate performance problems. Undertake other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor for University Advancement.   Preferred Qualifications Experienced fundraising professional with a demonstrated track record as fundraiser, manager, and strategist.  Ten years in a progressively responsible management position, in a higher education or related fundraising environment. Demonstrated ability to improve strategic and organizational effectiveness and results by providing strategic positioning, direction, and leadership. Strong management and leadership experience, including the ability to empower, build initiative, and sustain motivation of strong staff and to create effective, cohesive teams. Record of significant achievement in the area of major gifts and demonstrated skill in developing sophisticated strategies for planning, implementing, and administering complex gift situations. Ability to work successfully with administration, faculty, and volunteers as appropriate to secure gifts for the University and its various schools and programs. Understand, reflect, and promote the culture and values of Washington University with integrity, collegiality and excellence permeating each component of the Universityâ™s mission of teaching, discovery, and patient care as well as the work of advancement. Ability to operate effectively with flexibility and collegiality in a fast-paced, demanding, and complex organizational environment. Required Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelorâ™s degree and ten years of Masterâ™s degree and 8 years of related experience. Grade G00 Salary Range Base pay is commensurate with experience. The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
