The postdoctoral appointee will be part of a multidisciplinary team conducting work focused on the development of innovative technologies and methodologies for separations and safeguards of nuclear materials. This work will include conducting experiments, analyzing data, and developing models of chemical processes and systems. The candidate will be expected to have experience related to conducting R&D experiments, including skills relevant to report preparation, presentation of results, and production of peer-reviewed publications. The work is in support of the Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, and other DOE offices.

This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemical engineering, chemistry, nuclear engineering, or related field at the PhD degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience.

Position Requirements

To be considered, the candidate will be expected to have the following skills:
  • Knowledge of general principles of chemistry, chemical engineering and chemical technology is required.
  • Knowledge of aqueous separation principles, particularly as applied to nuclear materials and medical isotopes is desired.
  • Knowledge of international and domestic nuclear materials safeguards technologies is desired.
  • Skill in oral and written presentation of ideas, discussion of technical results and in the development of technical reports and presentation is required.
  • Experience in the use of radiological materials in fume hoods and gloveboxes is desired.
  • Knowledge of the use of computers to design and control experiments and to analyze and interpret experimental data is required.
