The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications, the Manager of Digital Storytelling and Corporate Social Media is an innovative content creator, writer, and video/visual storyteller. This person will be responsible for developing creative ways to bring our Qurate Retail Group story to life on our corporate owned digital and social platforms and through earned media efforts. The Digital Storytelling and Social Media lead will also be responsible for producing and managing a daily/monthly/quarterly editorial calendar for the newsroom and know how to produce video stories using this individual's and the team's talents in writing, editing, shooting news style feature video stories.

This role combines expertise in communications, journalistic writing, video production, photography, graphic design, and social media strategy with a high degree of business insight, brand awareness, and enthusiasm for digital storytelling and innovation. The Manager, Digital Storytelling and Corporate Social Media will lead by influence across the organization to curate story telling opportunities.

Your Impact
  • Leadership and organization of news process, using the platforms to drive our business strategies, coordinating a news team
  • Innovate creative ways to tell video/visual/social stories that positively reflect Qurate Retail Group's and its brand units' vision and mission and help drive business and external communications priorities
  • Create compelling journalistic copy (news stories/releases, headlines, social posts, blogs, captions) to support/surround video/visual content
  • Maintain strategic partnerships and regular "check ins" in key business areas to identify storytelling opportunities and strategize how to amplify those initiatives on our owned digital platforms and in media opportunities
  • Avidly follow industry best practices, content trends and concepts to constantly evolve our video/visual storytelling on the newsroom and through corporate social media
  • Develop story/content ideas that align to our business vision, corporate visibility goals, and strategic priorities
  • Develop and maintain measurement practice for digital and new media platforms that demonstrates progress and engagement on owned, non-owned and traditional media platforms
  • Video Pre-production
    • Partner with a variety of disciplines to gather information and visual assets needed to create videos focused on external corporate and media audiences
    • Conceptualize innovative creative executions targeting specific platforms
    • Write engaging and entertaining scripts/storyboards that communicate key messages to appropriate target audiences
    • Coordinate all phases of pre-production, such as locations, talent, legal clearances and other duties as required
  • Video Production
    • Act as director and videographer to achieve desired technical and creative results
    • Set up and operate cameras, lighting and audio equipment
    • Oversee all aspects of production
  • Video Post-Production/Editing
    • Assemble and edit videotaped material
    • Edit audio and video clips
    • Ensure that materials meet or exceed the Qurate Retail Group creative standards of look and feel

What you Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, or related/relevant field. Training in broadcasting, video production or related/relevant field a plus
  • 8 to 10 years of communications/media relations experience, preferably with a leading global company. Consumer/retail industry experience a plus
  • Must be available evenings and weekends and to travel, as required
  • Experience managing/overseeing digital platforms
  • Experience with Digital video production, including strategy/creative, writing, producing, shooting, lighting, sound, editing, live, legal and related activities
  • Experience with DSLR cameras, HD format video cameras, smart phones, standard lighting equipment, audio equipment and accessories
  • Experience with Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Media Encoder (video compression), stock photo and media libraries, standard content management systems for websites/social pages, and asset management systems
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Knowledge of AP Style of writing and keen understanding of wire service model
  • Passion for developing and experimenting with innovative ways to tell corporate stories across digital and social platforms
  • Photography skills, able to capture, select and crop compelling, newsworthy photos, a "good eye"
  • Light graphic design skills, able to create simple artwork/graphics to advance the story
  • Knowledge of new media (Facebook, YouTube, influencers, citizen journalists, etc.), SEO best practices, and internet culture. Understanding of new media's influence on corporate reputation and how a story goes viral
  • Ability to interface at all levels within the organization, as well as developing immediate trust and credibility
  • Strong team work skills
  • A strong sense of self - someone who is open to feedback, revisions, and can work in an environment that is fast-paced and therefore requires very direct communication
