Market Job Description

The Compliance team is responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining risk standards and programs to drive compliance with federal, state, agency, legal and regulatory and/or Corporate Policy requirements. As part of the Independent Risk Management function, Compliance oversees the Front Line's execution and challenges appropriately on compliance related decisions.

This position is a key member of the APAC Compliance leadership team, supporting the APAC Head of Compliance in the strategic execution and oversight of the APAC Compliance Department's activities, and in the administration of an efficient APAC Compliance function.

The head of Compliance Strategy & Governance Oversight will engage proactively with Wells Fargo Compliance, including Corporate & Investment Banking Compliance and Regional Compliance teams, and other stakeholders in the region, including front line and functional partners:
  • Work with the APAC Compliance leadership team and Wells Fargo Compliance to develop and maintain a comprehensive strategic plan for APAC Compliance and lead initiatives to enable their implementation.
  • Represent APAC Compliance in Enterprise-wide projects (e.g., Enterprise Compliance Plan), ensuring that regional requirements are communicated effectively and that project deliverables are implemented in APAC.
  • Support the APAC Head of Compliance with attendance at senior management meetings and the management of relationships with regional businesses and functional teams (e.g., APAC COO, APAC

  • Develop and maintain high quality compliance management information to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the team including proactive identification, tracking and reporting on issues and actions owned by APAC Compliance, to ensure timely execution.
  • Develop and deliver high quality reporting of compliance risks into APAC regional and legal entity committees and forums and to other stakeholders across the group, as necessary.
  • Close partnership with responsible Enterprise and regional stakeholders on key team infrastructure matters including budgeting, recruitment, space planning, technology and business continuity.
  • Work with senior leaders on day to day team management activities including communications with team members, identification of staffing needs, talent management, training, recruitment etc.
  • Support the design, execution, and oversight of the Compliance program, including assignment of program ownership to relevant Compliance and risk coverage teams
  • Manage and develop team members in the APAC Compliance Department.

Market Skills and Certifications

Work Experience, Certifications, and Knowledge
  • Relevant university degree and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience gained in an international financial center. Legal and regulatory background viewed favorably
  • Relevant professional certifications or qualifications (e.g., legal, compliance, project management, risk management)
  • Excellent general knowledge of banking laws and regulations in Asia, particularly those relating to conduct and regulatory compliance. Familiarity with US banking and bank holding company laws and regulations is desirable

  • Extensive and proven Compliance or Risk management experience with the ability to develop, articulate and execute against strategic objectives in a rapidly changing environment and the ability to create a vision for change and influence key stakeholders
  • Exceptional leadership capability; leads by example, fosters trust and is aligned with the Bank's vision and values. Strong influencing skills in a matrixed reporting environment with a proven ability to interact effectively and professionally at a high level with senior management.
  • Proven track record of working collaboratively across multiple lines of business and with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels, but also capable of taking the lead as needs dictate. An ability to motivate team members for common progress is essential
  • Able to execute large, complex initiatives in a large corporate environment where management of regulatory requirements must be achieved in the context of the region, different jurisdictions, the line of business and multiple legal entities.
  • Unquestionable ethics. High level of discretion on sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Highly developed communication and influencing skills excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral) skills are essential with an ability to communicate effectively across all levels of staff.
