Director of Strategic Initiatives for Enterprise Risk Management Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Seven (7) years of progressively responsible, full-time professional experience. Three (3) years of experience in project management, business development, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience managing complex projects and delivering results. Experience working with or leading cross-functional teams. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): MBA or Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Public Administration, Public Affairs, or a related field. Training or working knowledge of the provisions of the Clery Act, Title IX, and other statutory/regulatory requirements. Experience recruiting, mentoring, training and retaining a diverse team. Previous experience in a higher education or healthcare setting. Brief Description of Duties: Under the guidance of the Vice President for Enterprise Risk Management & Chief Security Officer (CSO), the Director of Strategic Initiatives for ERM for the Stony Brook University Division of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) will serve as a critical member of the Vice President's leadership team. As a highly visible strategic partner, the Director of Strategic Initiatives for ERM will be expected to lead the coordination and tactical alignment of diverse functions across the ERM portfolio. The incumbent will be responsible for streamlining high-importance projects and conducting leadership-level internal and external initiatives that have significant impact on the division's strategic objectives. The Director of Strategic Initiatives will be coordinating, developing and advising on policy for all of the areas within the Enterprise Risk Management Division and managing how those policies interact with each other and are communicated out the University. They will be charged with maintaining and updating policy on the website, reviewing and updating policies as new strategic initiatives are developed. For success, the incumbent must possess superb active listening skills with a strong team orientation as well as exhibit a demonstrated drive for results through a history of prior achievements. The ideal candidate should be a highly motivated and inquisitive big-picture thinker with the ability to drill down to details and work seamlessly in the face of ambiguity or rapidly changing goals, while maintaining the utmost in confidentiality and discretion. The incumbent will have proven experience with oral, written, and/or visual communications and presentations. Duties: Strategic Management & Execution of ERM Projects: Coordinate at a tactical, strategic, and operational level, the oversight and execution of projects that do not neatly fit within the ERM organizational chart or that fall between departments or leadership areas of responsibility. Support the VP/CSO in setting the overall strategy of the division and in day-to-day operations as needed. Proactively identify opportunities to add value to the VP/CSO and the overall division. Develop and assemble divisional annual goals, measure progress, and provide updates to leadership team. Develop presentations and communications for internal and external use. Monitor and identify priorities that require senior leadership focus. Connect teams that are working on similar initiatives and provide a leadership bridge between internal and external stakeholders. Drive execution of action items and top priorities agreed upon by the VP/CSO and the leadership team. Own and continuously improve divisional operating cadence (e.g., leadership team meetings, quarterly reviews, regulatory and compliance reports, etc.) Metrics & Analytics: Generate and analyze data, and produce reports/briefings relevant to ERM divisional activities and functions. Research grant opportunities, strategic partnerships, and other opportunities for collaboration in the emergency, disaster, public safety and risk spaces. Develop metrics and evaluation tools to measure and periodically report on strategic initiative effectiveness. Proactively identify, manage, and troubleshoot challenges associated with divisional initiatives and projects. Training & Business Operations Support: Provide logistical assistance for all in-service training, conferences, events, and continuing education programs as needed to support the functions of campus emergency responders. Support other ERM training, internships, and outreach programs including those in collaboration with various campus departments or local, state, and federal agencies. Divisional Representation & Media Relations: Represent the Vice President/CSO on committees and in meetings as needed. Support the Division at the scene of emergencies and special events as needed. Additional Duties & Responsibilities as Assigned: Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. Special Notes: This is a Management Confidential position. This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
