Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer / Sr. Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL. Position Overview: The selected Principal Software / Sr. Principal Software Engineer responsibilities include the development and support of products within the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program. You will be responsible for developing and implementing software updates that best meet changing customer needs for new and existing features for the IFICS Data Terminal (IDT), collaborating with team members, and working in a cross functional agile scrum team. Essential Functions:   Support advanced portions of the lifecycle of software development to include requirements definition, integration, and deployment. Prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results with limited oversight and direction. Apply "systems thinking" to ensure developed products are scalable, maintainable, and meet end-user needs. Communicate openly and effectively with teammates and customer representatives. The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below. Basic Qualifications: This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Software Engineer or Sr. Principal Software Engineer level. BQs for a Principal Software Engineer are: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 0 years of related experience with a PhD. Experience developing software in object-oriented programming languages such as C or C++, C#, Java or Ada. Experience in object oriented Design and Linux platform development Proficiency in software configuration management and version control tools such as ClearaCase, Git/GitHub, Subversion Proficiency in Agile development concepts, methodologies and tools such as Atlassian products, including JIRA, Fisheye Crucible, Confluence, etc. Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs. A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance is required to start. BQs for a Sr. Principal Software Engineer are: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 7 years of related experience, or 4 years of related experience with a PhD. Experience developing software in object-oriented programming languages such as C or C++, C#, Java or Ada. Experience in object oriented Design and Linux platform development Proficiency in software configuration management and version control tools such as ClearaCase, Git/GitHub, Subversion Proficiency in Agile development concepts, methodologies and tools such as Atlassian products, including JIRA, Fisheye Crucible, Confluence, etc. Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs. A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance is required to start. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering or related field. Excellent decision making and communication (written and verbal) skills. Strong work ethic and the ability to work in a collaborative, Agile integrated product team (IPT) environment. Security+ certification GMD/MDA Experience Missile Defense Experience High proficiency with tools required for communication system and network modeling and simulation Communication Link or Signal Processing System Experience Experience in IBM Rational Software including DOORs, Rhapsody, etc. Experience with continuous integration and delivery in accordance with DevSecOps processes and best practices Containerization and Software Implemented Servers Experience A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
