Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has mid-level or experienced junior-level mechanical engineering position in the Huntsville Hardware Engineering (HHWE) group of the Combat Systems and Mission Readiness (CSMR) division. Position supports one or more projects performing mechanical design engineering to integrate Command and Control systems into tactical platforms for Department of Defense programs. These projects include air and missile defense command systems, anti-artillery systems, wheeled and armored vehicles, command operations centers, or security and warning systems, as well as associated activities. Responsibilities include: -- Mechanical design of parts, assemblies, subsystems, and complete systems, including 3D CAD modeling, drafting/review/revision/release of engineering drawings, selection of components and materials -- Leading small, cross-functional teams performing various design and production-support tasks in an Agile Hardware environment -- Collaborating with other functional areas such as Production, Procurement, Systems Engineering, Quality, and Logistics on aspects of product design, integration, and support in an Agile Hardware environment -- Communicating with internal buyers and external machine shops to exchange technical information about fabrication of parts and assemblies -- Performing mechanical engineering analyses, such as weight/center of mass, structural, transportability, or thermal, and authoring reports documenting them -- Development and maintenance of bills of material in support of design, production, proposal, or other business activities -- Creating, delivering, and defending engineering briefings to support internal and external design reviews, including to company management and government customer representatives -- Assisting in the preparation and submittal of contract deliverable reports and data packages -- Mentoring and informally training junior engineers and engineering interns This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below. Basic Qualifications: This requisition may be filled at either a Mechanical Engineer or Principal Mechanical Engineer.  BQs for a Mechanical Engineer are: BS degree and 2+ years of experience in Electrical design. BQs for a Principal Mechanical Engineer are: BS degree and 5+ years of experience in Electrical design. -- Experience drafting and reviewing mechanical drawings to ASME standards -- Experience working as part of a collaborative design team -- Desire and ability to lead small technical teams solving challenging, multi-disciplinary design problems -- Self-motivated and able to work independently in a schedule-driven environment -- Good verbal and written communication skills -- Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance Preferred Qualifications: -- 3D CAD modeling/2D drawing drafting experience specifically with SolidWorks -- Experience using any industry-standard Product Lifecycle Management system such as Team Center (preferred), SmarTeam, Windchill, Workgroup PDM, etc. -- Experience with electronics/payload/C2 integration design for commercial or military systems -- Experience leading technical teams in a collaborative environment -- Experience in a production/manufacturing environment -- Familiarity with industry-standard MRP systems such as SAP -- Experience working in Agile for Hardware project development -- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: environmental test & evaluation, concrete pad/geo-civil structures installation design, corrosion prevention, shock & vibration analysis, weld inspection/analysis, components engineering, CAD/PLM tools management & administration -- Active security clearance, minimum level Secret Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
