As part of DMED Technology, the DMED Consumer Experiences & Platforms pillar is responsible for creating the consumer facing applications across ABC, ABC News, the Disney Channel, ESPN, FX, National Geographic, Marvel, and more.
We're looking for a Lead Software Engineer to help us build groundbreaking digital experiences. As a Lead engineer you will be a key member of a small team of developers. Every day, you'll work with team members across disciplines architecting and implementing solutions to very complex and challenging problems for a variety of systems involved with the ESPN platforms. You'll interact daily with our product managers to understand our domain and create technical solutions that push us forward.

This is a highly collaborative role where partnership and relationship building with many different non-technical lines of business and other technology teams will be critical. The ideal candidate is a smart, results-oriented person with a mix of passion for outstanding application architecture and coding, who also has the soft skills of building relationships and consensus.
Responsibilities:
Build well-designed, well-engineered, stable, scalable cloud-based applications written in Kotlin and Groovy in AWS.
• Conceive of and set the architectural direction for major software development projects.
• Apply solid engineering practices towards developing complex system integrations.
• Play a central role in furthering the engineering culture of the team.
• Manage and participate in the software development lifecycle including requirements analysis, planning and estimations, implementation and support.
• Partner with business stakeholders to deliver features on time and to specifications.
• Continuously learn and keep up to date with emerging technologies to evaluate impact to business and member value.
• Deliver an outstanding experience for our Fans.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
o 8+ years of full software development lifecycle experience
o Experience with building complex client to server and server to server integrations
o Experience supporting and triaging highly available backend API systems
o Experience with non-trivial CI/CD build and deployment pipelines
o Exceptional understanding of best practices for object-oriented and modularized software with a particular emphasis on Kotlin, Groovy, Java, or equivalent language.
o Solid understanding of effective unit and integration testing principles.
o Passionate about writing clean, well-organized, and production-ready code for highly scalable, high-volume web applications.
o Self-motivated with exceptional problem-solving skills.
o Excellent communication skills and experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams of product managers, designers, and engineers.
o Deep knowledge of how to protect web applications from security vulnerabilities.
o Be organized and able to remain productive even when you have multiple deliverables.
o BS or BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience developing container services in AWS strongly preferred.
o Knowledge of front end or mobile app development preferred.
