Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position Summary In collaboration with colleagues in the Communications Office, Deanâ™s Office, and Program Offices, leads Communications Office efforts for the Sam Fox Schoolâ™s main external-facing website, social media channels, and weekly e-news. The position is responsible for daily content creation, updating, and maintenance for the Sam Fox Schoolâ™s main external-facing website, along with content support for the Schoolâ™s intranet content and Island Press website. This position is also responsible for leading the brand strategy, development, and posting of materials for the Sam Fox Schoolâ™s social media channels, and for creating the Schoolâ™s weekly e-news. Across digital platforms, this position works with students, alumni, and faculty to gather, write, edit, produce, and post contentâ”both written and visualâ”that can be used for events, news, and recruitment purposes. Works under the guidance of the Director of Communications and with members of the Communications Office to develop and execute the Sam Fox Schoolâ™s internal and external communications plans. This is a full-time position. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities Web (55%) Works with the Director of Communications, the Deanâ™s Office, and program directors to define content strategy for the website and lead its execution. Administrator for online content management systems. Update/manage content for the Sam Fox Schoolâ™s external-facing website, along with the intranet and the Island Press website, with a focus on enhancing and reinforcing brand positioning and maintaining a consistent look, feel, and voice. Manages the procurement of materials (images of work, bios, program-related content, event information) from faculty, students, staff, alumni, and visiting faculty. This includes establishing workflows with faculty and staff contacts to ensure a structured system for gathering and uploading images of Student Work onto the Sam Fox School website from across all academic programs. Writes stories about faculty, students, and alumni for the website, including conducting background research and interviewing them in person/over the phone/over email. Manages event-related materials, including editing content, updating the website calendar with text/images, and coordinating updates to the Universityâ™s Happenings calendar, to ensure Sam Fox School events are featured. Manages the process of updating courses on the new website, including working closely with the Registrarâ™s Office for updates each semester, and working with faculty to facilitate Course page updates. Ensures compliance with the Universityâ™s accessibility standards for all website content. Coordinates with other members of the Communications Office to arrange photography and video to support content needed for the website and other communications. Serves as a liaison for submitting trouble tickets and feature requests for the Sam Fox School website to IT staff and developers to identify and implement solutions. In collaboration with the Director of Communications, plans and develops new website initiatives, including training sessions for faculty and staff. Measures analytics for Sam Fox School website, and work with the Director of Communications to review and refine strategies for digital communications. Edits, writes, and uploads content to the Sam Fox School intranet and the Island Press website as needed. Â Social Media (30%) Lead the strategic development of content for the Sam Fox Schoolâ™s primary social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube), consistent with brand narrative, tone, voice, messaging, and target audience for each channel. Responsible for day-to-day activities (e.g. designing compelling content, photographing events, posting on social media platforms, responding to posts, monitoring social media for news about Sam Fox School faculty, alumni, and students). Coordinate with colleagues and student workers on content development and gathering. Increase visibility of the Sam Fox School through social media platforms, supporting recruitment efforts, alumni and development initiatives, and research and creative activity of faculty, students, and alumni. Provide guidance on best practices for faculty, staff, and students involved with operating the Schoolâ™s program-centric affiliate accounts; this includes developing a School guide to social media best practices. Remain up to date on current social media trends and initiatives, including those being implemented by other schools at the University. Participate in the Universityâ™s social media working group and find ways to plug the School into wider social media campaigns. Additional Digital Communications (15%) Manage the Sam Fox Schoolâ™s weekly e-news, which goes to a list of more than 1,700 contacts as well as students. Duties include gathering content, writing/proofreading/formatting, and scheduling campaigns. Create additional email campaigns, including stand-alone emails promoting events and internal communications to faculty, staff, and students. Monitor analytics for campaigns and provide updates to stakeholders. Update email marketing contact lists. Working Conditions Uses office equipment and ability to move to on and off-campus locations as needed. Preferred Qualifications Masterâ™s degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing or a related field, or professional experience in art, architecture, and design. Exceptional strategic, critical thinking, and creative mindset. Three yearsâ™ experience in web content development and management Familiarity with best practices regarding accessibility for digital content. Proficiency with website analytics and reports. Experience in creating high-end digital campaigns for higher education. Exceptional judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential/delicate information and/or challenging issues. Comfortable managing student workers and freelancers. Proficient in web content development and management, including working with external parties/website developers to identify and manage trouble tickets and site updates. Demonstrated experience developing creative and engaging social media campaigns (particularly on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) in a business/professional setting, targeting a variety of audiences and occasions. Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills. A self-motivator with strong attention to detail and ability to work independently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite. Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. Proficiency with email marketing services, such as Constant Contact. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds. Outstanding project management skills. Effective in a demanding professional and academic environment, able to meet multiple deadlines, strong ability to prioritize; a quick learner. Required Qualifications Bachelorâ™s degree in related field. Three yearsâ™ relevant experience. Grade G10 Salary Range Base pay is commensurate with experience. The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
