Job Type: Staff Job Description: The Coordinator for Diversity and Inclusion is part of the Provost's Office and is responsible for delivering upon the Kansas City Universities' (KCU) vision for and strategy around the overall student experience in relations to diversity, inclusion and affiliation that will support the School's mission. This position will liaise with various academic departments and student service offices including but not limited to the Student Services, and Human Resources . Responsible for engaging students and alumni in career readiness activities such as individual consultations and career related workshops, creating career resources, and developing strategic campus and community partners to support career development in underrepresented minorities. Duties and Responsibilities: Advocate and mentor multicultural students and student groups on issues of race, ethnicity and current multicultural issues as well as enhance their career development, advanced study opportunities and preparation of academic scholarship to promote a diverse and well balanced overall educational experience Coordinate advocacy and retention programs for first generation students, which includes undocumented student services and programming to best provide resources and support to underserve student populations contributing to the field of oral health Partner with Admissions, Financial Aid, Office of Equity, Campus Student Services and other departments that aid in the recruitment, retention and success of underrepresented student populations Serve on campus wide committees, implement and analyze efforts to increase diversity among the student body, faculty and staff. Plan and implement events and programs for the Multicultural Center. Serve on external committees and/or boards Enhance and support the continued efforts and development as well as oversee the implementation of the School co-curricular dialogue initiatives and programs including, but not limited to classroom settings, leadership contexts, and students' well-being. Specific responsibilities will include annual planning; recruitment, selection, training and supervision of facilitator(s); logistics and assessment of program(s) Work across university departments/divisions to ensure comprehensive diversity training for classroom outreach and co-curricular engagement Serve on appropriate university and community communities as directed. Develop and implement campus-wide diversity Mentor multicultural student leaders through one on one interactions, retreats, and trainings Collaborate with multicultural student leaders to evaluate organizational needs, set goals and programmatic schedules, and implement educational diversity programs Serve as a liaison between organizations and departments essential in supporting diverse student program initiatives. Serve as a liaison between the Diversity and Inclusion Office and club faculty advisors Represent KCU at events sponsored by multicultural clubs and organizations under advisement or supervision Assist with supervision of campus-wide events such as Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, Awards Banquet and Graduation Performed other duties as assigned Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with experience in student affairs, counseling, or related field Ability to demonstrate the understanding of the linguistic, gender, and cultural issues affecting multicultural students in higher education The successful candidate will have strong oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills, the ability to communicate with a diverse campus community, public speaking and program coordination skills, demonstrated integrity and initiative, and the willingness to be part of a collaborative team.
