Academic Technology Specialist

The Academic Technology Specialist position works directly with faculty and colleagues on instructional design, pedagogy and course-related website development.



  • Create, manage and support EMBA, Daytime, MMS, PhD, DKU, MQM, Online MSQM course sites 
  • Collaborate with faculty to understand online course plans including necessary materials and teaching approaches
  • Consult with faculty on course content display
  • Train faculty and staff on LMS functions and site maintenance
  • Assist with student and faculty LMS guides/documentation
  • Gather student feedback on current LMS
  • Implement and manage course site templates
  • Collaborate with the technical team to test, document and demonstrate new academic software applications and tools 
  • Collaborate with faculty, students and staff to test new learning management systems
  • Collaborate with faculty, students and staff on innovative uses of technology


Minimum Qualifications

Work requires communication and analytical skills normally acquired through a 4-year college education.


Work requires a general knowledge of research methods, procedures, and experience. activities normally acquired through 1 year of social science research OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE


Department's Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with additional experience in instructional design and LMS Administration
  • Instructional design expertise with insights about technology trends and solutions
  • Experience with web authoring tools, multimedia tools, presentation software, streaming video in an academic environment
  • Knowledge of learning management systems and other tools widely used for teaching
  • Must be a self-starter who requires minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solver with the ability to communicate in both technical and non-technical terms
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with a wide range of people within an academic community
  • Evidence of ability to generate faculty enthusiasm for and engagement in the use of new technologies for teaching
