What You Will Do

The Bioscience Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking postdoctoral candidates interested in the use of complex cell culture tissue systems to investigate toxicological effects of different exposure types. The successful candidate will join an intradisciplinary team of scientists, postdoctoral researchers, technicians, and students seeking to develop new technologies to address chemical and biological threats to our national security. Specifically, this research will focus on using microphysiological systems to characterize the cellular and molecular changes from exposure to metals, radiation, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or other potential toxicants. LANL is a highly collaborative environment and an ideal candidate will be able to work both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams to support multiple projects all of which have a National Security application.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated working experience in cell culture
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance which typically requires US Citizenship

Education/Experience: Ph.D. in toxicology, pharmacology, cell biology or a related STEM field completed within the last five years or will have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of appointment.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with complex tissue cultures and microphysiological systems
  • Familiarity applying bioengineering techniques to cell culture methods
  • Experience with utilizing or differentiating stem cells
  • Experience handing a range of genomic, transcriptomic, or proteomic data and harmonizing these data sets for downstream analysis
  • Experience working with radiological experiments
  • An educational or professional background that would lend itself to successful completion of the American Board of Toxicology Exam
Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Q Clearance: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
