Eaton’s Vehicle Sector is currently seeking a Lead Embedded Software Engineer to join our team. This position can be based at our Southfield, MI, Galesburg, MI or Marshall, MI facilities. Relocation available for candidates willing to relocate to Galesburg, MI area.

Position Overview:

This position is part of a team developing an embedded control system for a heavy-duty vehicle transmission. This individual will be responsible for the base or core software with a focus on low level drivers including but not limited to CAN communication, bootloaders, file systems, diagnostics, digital and analog I/O pins, real-time operating systems, and components in the hardware abstraction layer.

As a key member of the team, the Senior Embedded Software Engineer will help define requirements, design the system software architecture, implement solutions, define test plans and perform validation testing to confirm that system and functional requirements are met. In this role, the senior engineer will be responsible for working with team members and the engineering manager to estimate development, resources and timing to achieve the desired results. The incumbent will have the opportunity to be mentored and trained by senior level embedded controls engineers and software architects to help grow overall expertise. The Senior Embedded Software Engineer will be expected to train and mentor less experienced engineers and work with engineers located in other locations in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and South America.

In this function you will:

+ Help define embedded software architecture to meet product requirements including functional safety goals. Help define and improve embedded standards and processes, and potentially contribute to industry technical papers and conferences.

+ Invent and develop embedded strategies. Use debugging tools to efficiently perform design iterations and optimization. Verify solutions created by you or other team members through hardware-in-the-loop simulation and vehicle level testing.

+ Help in driving implementation consistency across multiple resources contributing to the same embedded system architecture. Champion and document improvements to the engineering standard work processes we use to engineer our products.

+ Contribute to the embedded software by adding additional product features.

+ Develop validation and verification test plans at a unit, sub-system and vehicle level to fully validate requirements. Analyze vehicle data from test and customer vehicles to investigate, identify, and resolve issues and performance complaints.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

+ Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Technical equivalent from a nationally accredited university.

+ Minimum 2 years relevant experience with embedded system applications or relevant engineering discipline.

+ Minimum 2 years of experience in embedded software development (C OR C++)

Preferred qualifications:

+ Expertise with Controller Area Networks (e.g. SAE-J1939, ethernet)

+ Expertise with Vector tools such as CANape and CANalyzer.

+ Project management skills to assess task effort, manage priorities, and report status.

+ Experience with change management and software release processes in a team environment

+ Prior experience working with any of the following: bootloaders, hardware abstraction layer, multi-wire diagnostics, file systems, embedded memory management, A2D inputs, interfacing with the MCAL

+ Prior experience working with SPI communication Interface is a plus

+ Prior Boot Loader experience is a plus

Position Criteria:

+ Ability to travel up to 10%

+ Good communication skills with ability to interface directly with external partners, suppliers, and both internal and external customers
