Job Brief

The role leads the two teams responsible for Facilities and Maintenance - TA’s corporate properties and the Centralized Store Maintenance team.  Through both internal staff and National Account Vendors, the Facilities and Maintenance teams manage ongoing repairs and maintenance and CAPEX project typically under $100k.  The Director is expected to control financial performance against monthly, quarterly, and annual plans. Identifies and executes programs that contribute to TA’s financial success, protect TA assets and support safety at all TA sites.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Act as a liaison for the VP of Construction and as a senior member of the Construction team for advisory purposes.
  2. Work cross functionally with the Director of Construction to insure smooth project turnover, as well as hold accountability to GC warranties.
  3. Responsible for all aspects of ServiceChannel compliance with TA stakeholders to ensure project delivery and completion regardless of direct responsibility or control
  4. Maintain detailed knowledge of all ongoing projects and schedules
  5. High level of communication with TA stakeholders and keep VP apprised of any critical items or situations having impact on project delivery or cost
  6. Coach and recommend course of action to Regional Facilities Manager and Corporate Property Manager on issues affecting schedule, cost, quality, scope of work or warranty considerations
  7. Champion the resolution of site issues identified by the Regional Vice President(s) or key stakeholders to bring to a reasonable and cost-effective solution
  8. Lead the QBR/SBR process, in conjunction with TA’s Centralized Procurement team, by providing measured and fact-based feedback and develop a set of meaningful KPI’s in order to accurately gauge and reflect Supplier performance
  9. Develop a clear process with the Construction team to identify large projects (over $100k) that initiate in ServiceChannel and transition them to the appropriate Regional Construction Manager or construction management company
  10. Hire appropriate talent, ongoing coaching, training and professional development of both individuals and the team as a whole. 
  11. Manage the financial performance of the department. Develop annual capital and expense budgets, approve project estimates, review performance to budget, and take action to control to plan 
  12. Coordinate with Senior Regional QSR/FF&E Manager for all needed FF&E to support ongoing projects while communicating any scheduling changes based on site conditions
  13. Work closely with the Design Manager, and cross functionally with Brand Marketing, to ensure emergency and non-emergency repairs related to Brand elements in the TA travel center and TA’s HQ represent TA’s current design direction
  14. When needed, support both the Environmental and Franchise teams with project and/or site support
  15. Occasional travel to project stores and various markets provides important ground-level knowledge of performance and how our performance impacts the customer and our stores

Qualifications

  1. 4 year degree in construction/facility administration preferred.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with a variety of internal and external partners.  High level of empathy for others
  3. Organized with the ability to multi-task and document
  4. Candidate must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of stakeholders and personalities. 
  5. PC proficiency with emphasis on Microsoft Office programs including a heavy focus on Excel & Word.  CMMS experience is a must.
  6. Must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized, have excellent research skills, and ability to perform tasks effectively under pressure.
  7. Must work effectively in a team environment, as well as function independently. 
  8. Highly focused and results-oriented, supporting deadline-driven operations.
  9. High degree of reliability with the ability to travel approximately 20% of the time
  10. Excellent organizational, leadership and problem-solving skills
