Position Purpose:

Position ensures that architectural plans for Supply Chain Distribution and Special Project construction are consistent with Home Depot Design Criteria, standards, and individual project goals.  Direct oversight/review of outside Architects and their deliverables, holding these vendors accountable for alignment to project scope, scheduling, and budgets.  Accountable for construction document coordination with all internal HD stakeholders including Real Estate, Legal, IT, AP, Supply Chain Facilities/Operations. Seeking a strong communicator who has experience in planning, design, project management, and can lead large meetings

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:
  • Manages the design process end to end with outside Architect vendors.
  • Solicits proposals/contracts with outside Architect vendors for all projects assigned.
  • Assists Construction Managers in creating Architectural budgets.
  • Responsible for maintaining Architect-related schedule within the overall project schedule.
  • Assists Construction Managers as appropriate in the review of change orders/dispute resolution.
  • Responsible for annual update of the Design Criteria Manual.
  • Participate in assigned project team meetings to ensure construction documents align with project goals.
  • Conducts 50%, 95%, and final plan reviews with the development team to ensure alignment with all assigned project goals and coordination with internal HD stakeholders.
  • Participates in and holds Architect accountable for conducting timely and through BFD meetings to identify all municipal requirements of individual projects at the outset of plan production.
  • Lead and coordinate punch walks with internal / external design and construction partners.
  • Holds Architect accountable to produce a Revit model of all assigned projects at the 75% review to document that building systems coordination is without conflict.
  • Produces a Design Criteria deviation letter (as appropriate) for leadership review and acceptance prior to finalization of construction documents.
Nature and Scope:
  • Typically reports to the Construction Manager - Design or Director of Construction - Industrial.
  • Manages relationships with various construction consultants, internal SSC departments including real estate, legal, Supply Chain Facilities/Operations.
  • Typically requires highly developed interpersonal skills for dealing with sensitive or controversial situations.
  • Typically faces situations that are unstructured and require original approaches.
  • Typically solves problems by considering courses of action within the framework of management's goals and standards.
  • Expected to provide routine status reports to management.

Environmental Job Requirements:
  • Under regular pressure to meet deadlines, quotas and/or must frequently deal with difficult issues related to people or situations
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area.
  • Approximately 10-25% North American travel required.


  • Must be eighteen years of age
  • Must pass the Drug Test
  • Must pass the Background Check
  • Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable



  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.





  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
  • Approximately 10-25% North American travel required.



  • 5 years of experience 
  • Experience developing and maintaining construction documentation that is consistent with corporate goals across multiple project types and locations.
  • Solid working knowledge managing Architects and related service suppliers
  • Proven experience in innovative design that efficient, and cost effective, consistent with corporate standards and branding.
  • Significant knowledge & experience managing multi-million $ capital projects
  • Design team management experience in the Supply Chain arena.
  • Leadership experience delivering cost optimization via value engineering & expense reduction (capital, G&A, utilities, etc.)


  • Design project management or related experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Contract document reading knowledge or experience.
  • Business, financial analysis, and/or budgeting skills.
  • Good organizational and written communication skills.
  • Group presentation skills.
