The Investments External Reporting team is responsible for providing timely and accurate investment information to support external filings made by The Allstate Corporation.

Job Summary
The primary responsibilities of this role are the coordination of monthly close processes and the preparation or review of disclosures that go into internal and external financial reports, such as the 10K and 10Q. This requires an understanding of reporting requirements and strong attention to detail, as well as an ability to independently prioritize multiple complex tasks within established deadlines. This role is a leader, communicating status to department leadership and coordinating tasks and projects that can include members from multiple teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review investment disclosure schedules/exhibits/work papers that support external filings made by the Allstate Corporation and provide review comments back to preparer. Ensure schedules are prepared consistent with requirements, on time, and with a high degree of accuracy
  • Review journal entries to support the monthly and quarterly close; validate that all postings appropriate post to G/L and data warehouse systems.
  • Coordinate, participate in, and lead projects for process and technology development, accounting research, and other areas as needed.
  • Accurately apply guidance and policy to classify investment holdings and transactions.
  • Own and be accountable for execution of schedule preparation and review responsibilities
  • Identify and execute process improvements (e.g., schedule preparation, work paper documentation, data retrievals, report formatting for suppliers and customers, etc.)
  • Work collaboratively within the team and across the department
  • Build strong internal relationships with leadership in other departments such as Investment Finance, Front Office Traders, Corporate Accounting, Operational Accounting and Compliance to effectively troubleshoot issues and questions that arise during close and reporting
  • Anticipates operational issues (such as changes to data fields with investment data warehouse or information timing changes from key suppliers) and develops suggestions for preventive measures

  • Provide clear and timely status on team deliverables
  • Build cross-functional partnerships
  • Clearly articulate issues and recommendations, taking into account the perspective of all related parties
  • Foster a team environment

Job Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional accounting/reporting experience
  • Accounting/Finance degree required
  • CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Advanced problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills, ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple projects
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Intermediate database and SAP skills are a plus
  • Good oral and written communication skills to all levels of staff and management
  • Good analytical and issue resolution skills
