Position Description

The Senior Director, Business Development, is responsible for bringing in new partnerships to the ADP Marketplace partner network.


The ADP Marketplace is an online app store, offering an ecosystem of software product applications which ADP clients can purchase and integrate with ADP payroll and HR data.  The Marketplace launched in 2014 and includes 800+ applications from ~400 partner companies.  A majority of applications are e-commerce enabled, allowing clients to purchase and activate applications in an online environment. The ADP Marketplace is the largest e-commerce HR marketplace, offering extensive choice for our clients.  Awards received include Top HR Product (Human Resource Executive), and Awesome New Technology (HR Technology Conference).


This role will be responsible for strategic alliance development including identification, negotiation and technical enablement of new partners. This person will spend considerable time evaluating ideal partners based on the needs of our clients, identifying opportunities to integrate ADP data with partner data and negotiating contracts.  This role will also support strategic initiatives for the Marketplace.


This person will also work diligently across ADP internal functions such as legal, security, finance, sales, product management, and product development to ensure partnerships are set up for success.



  • Continually evaluate categories in which additional partners are needed, through industry assessments and close coordination with business leaders. across ADP.

  • Identify, research and develop new partner lists to expand the ADP Marketplace and add product offerings.
  • Lead negotiations on all terms and final agreements, including commercial terms, security reviews and integration requirements. Introduces partners to go-to-market approach.
  • Revise contracts of existing Marketplace partners to include additional product offerings and integrations as business needs/opportunities change.
  • Evaluate applications from partners who have expressed interest in joining the Marketplace.
  • Assist with strategic initiatives for the Marketplace.


MBA Degree Preferred
Minimum of 10 years' experience in business development and alliance development. Experience in developing and supporting partner programs.

  • Negotiating - helps convince target organizations to partner with ADP. Negotiates all deal terms
  • Flexibility – Marketplace operates somewhat like a start-up within a large company
  • Strategic thinking – thinks strategically about partnership opportunities and overall strategic direction of the organization
  • Leadership - leads internal due diligence efforts. Strong emphasis on matrix management/leadership skills
  • Creative Problem Solving - finds win-win opportunities for ADP and potential partners
  • Analysis & solution development- assesses optimal partner integration opportunities
  • Communication & presentation - has strong written, oral and presentation skills
  • Collaboration/Teamwork - works effectively with others, both internally and externally to achieve goals
  • Initiative - proactively seeks out new revenue/partnership opportunities and new approaches to optimizing business opportunities
  • Human Capital Management (HCM) background a plus
