About the team

The SRE team at Zillow Group empowers ZG Product Teams to efficiently run “Zillow 2.0” services by reducing human error, aggressively focusing on automation, and providing deep insight into application behavior and health. We do that by incorporating aspects of software engineering and applying them to infrastructure and operations problems as a way to build and manage scalable and reliable distributed software systems.

About the role

As a Senior Manager, Site Reliability Engineering, you will manage a team of Site Reliability Engineers who are working to build the systems and infrastructure that power “Zillow 2.0.” You will also have an opportunity to:

  • Lead and mentor a team of 10+ Site Reliability Engineers, including one manager.

  • Align the team’s capabilities and interests with the company’s needs and values.

  • Engage technically with Product Engineering when driving execution on project work and when dealing with production incidents

  • Represent your team effectively in technical discussions, priority setting, and postmortems.

  • Influence the technical and cultural development of broader organizations, including Cloud, Infrastructure, Platform, and Product Engineering.

  • Raise the bar for provable reliability, quality, and security.

  • Plan a sustainable roadmap with measurably valuable but realistically attainable goals and deliver durable, systematic, improvements.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

In Colorado, the standard pay range for this role is $181,000.00 - $289,100.00 Annually. This range is specific to Colorado and may not be applicable to other locations.

Who you are

  • 5+ years of software engineering, SRE, or technology operations engineering experience in a cloud-based, highly customer-focused environment. Hands-on Kubernetes experience is a significant plus.

  • 5+ years experience successfully leading a team of 5 or more engineers, in a role that included both production support and project delivery responsibilities. Experience managing managers is a plus.

  • Ability to write and review code in at least one language. You are comfortable reviewing both functional implementation and tests.

  • Take enjoyment in anticipating how systems fail, how failure can be designed for, how it can be monitored, and what constitutes good SLI/SLOs.

  • Skilled in communicating, in an appropriate technical depth, with a variety of audiences, from engineers to upper management.

  • Have a passion for automation.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.
