The Department of Sociology in conjunction with the newly formed Digital Media and Film (DMF) major, invite applications for a Tenure-track, Assistant Professor position, beginning August 2022. The position is a dual appointment between the Sociology Department and DMF program. Accordingly, we seek an individual with teaching and research interests in Sociology of Technology , preferably in the areas of communication, media, and film . Proficiency is expected in the interplay between technology innovations and social changes in terms of (1) catalyzing social inequality and social movements and (2) instituting concrete information organization, media technology, and genre of communication. Teaching load is three courses per semester. Regular contributions are expected at the introductory level as well as elective courses that serve both the sociology and/or the DMF majors, minors, and the general student body. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be required to teach SOC 169 (Media and Society). Opportunities also exist to collaborate with and mentor student research. Department aims and goals include the development of sociological perspectives that enhance students’ abilities to engage in praxis. There is also opportunity to contribute to the university’s area studies programs. We are interested in candidates, who can substantively contribute to the diversity of the: a) university community, b) structures of knowledge, and c) strategic visions of the two programs. ABD in Sociology at the time of application is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a Ph.D. in Sociology by the time of appointment.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching, active scholarship, and a strong commitment to liberal arts undergraduate education with sincere commitment to diversity and equity is required.
