The Director of Business Development reports to the Vice President of Business Development and directly supports the Vice President of the Propulsion and Environmental Systems Business Unit (BU). This person is responsible for developing and executing the Business Unit’s market capture growth that supports and is aligned with the Business Unit and Company strategic management plan, including managing orders forecasts/projections and execution efforts for acquiring and closing on new business.

This position is remote but will require frequent travel to Madison, WI as well as travel to customer's locations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Responsible for developing, modifying, and engaging capture management plans and tracking within the business unit (BU) that supports the BU’s growth targets aligned with the Vice President of the BU and the company’s strategic management plan

  • Responsible for assessing and quantifying market opportunities and working with the BU leadership and technical teams on strategic growth plans.

  • Responsible for customer engagement to determine needs, facilitate solutions with technical teams, and develop/execute win strategies and capture plans to close on the new business opportunities.

  • Supports the VP of the Business Unit, and VP of BD in establishing Strategic Business Development Objectives

  • Responsible for integrating the BU product roadmaps

  • Responsible for developing the return on investment analyses for the BU’s strategic pursuits

  • Responsible for preparing the quarterly Capture Management Review (CMR) briefing, reporting the status of the execution against the BU’s annual plan targets

  • Responsible for the monthly update and review of the BU Orders Forecast

  • Responsible for preparing annual Business Development and Bid and Proposal (B&P) budgets for review and approval, and managing those budgets during execution.

  • Supports the development of statements of work and supervision for all BU Business Development consultants and assessing their performance at the end of the period of performance

  • Joint responsibility with the BU Director of Programs in achieving annual BU Growth Targets

  • Supports the Director and VP of Technology’s development of a strategic plan of technology developments necessary to support current and future business activities,

  • Supports the Business Unit leaders to identify and prioritize the BU’s strategy and guide related internal research and development (R&D) initiatives

  • Responsible for training and managing any BU business development staff

  • Supports the oversight of all policy matters in support of the ITCO and the exportability, technical determination and releasability of their business areas products and services

  • Responsible for timely execution of all personnel-related activities such as Time Sheet completion, Performance Evaluations (Anniversary and Annual), Salary Reviews, Succession Planning, etc.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Typically 10 years of experience in the business unit designated areas of primary support

  • Knowledgeable in business areas of primary support

  • The position requires knowledge and understanding of launch systems, military space/launch/delivery systems, basic spacecraft systems, and program and acquisition procedures. US military or DoD civilian experience is preferred.

  • A background in civilian business development, proposal development, program management and team building/collaboration is desired

  • Candidates must be able to understand customer product requirements, operational concepts , and with the assistance of appropriate technical personnel, translate those into feasible technical solutions to be explained to both technical and nontechnical audiences

  • The position requires the ability to work autonomously and independently as well as with a group to develop business strategies, contacts, solutions and plans

  • The individual must be a self starter of unimpeachable integrity with significant tenacity and passion

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

  • Candidates for this position preferably have an advanced degree at the masters level or higher

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance may be required; preference for a Top Secret Government Clearance that is qualified to be cleared for SCI as appropriate
