Math & Science Support Coordinator 6123BR Student Affairs Academic Success Center Detailed Job Description Please note: This position is a full-time, 11 month position. The Coordinator, Math and Science Support provides and promotes math and science learning strategies, resources, and interventions for students by coordinating and offering workshops, courses, tutoring services, and individual and small group interactions related to academic support in math and science. This position is responsible for developing, managing and facilitating Math and Physics Support courses, and providing individual consultations to enhance student' learning strategies. Responsibilities include supervision of graduate and undergraduate student staff with emphasis on development, support and delivery of training and development for student and adjunct staff. This position provides administrative supervision and assessment of key programmatic initiatives, partners and collaborates with colleges, departments, faculty and staff regarding the academic success and perseverance of students. This position is part of the ASC Math and Science Support team and reports to the Assistant Director. Department/College Description The Academic Success Center at RIT assists and empowers students to achieve academic success by providing quality resources and staff to meet student needs. The ASC's academic coaching; individual and group tutoring; workshops; classes; and presentation assist students to develop the necessary skills to achieve their academic goals. Required Minimum Qualifications A minimum of 3 years of full-time, professional experience in higher education in stem-related fields with increasing responsibility in educational programming or student services. Specialized Skills College level physics, chemistry or math instruction/teaching and/or curriculum development Develop student ability to understand math and science learning strategies and academic success content Ability to supervise, train, support and evaluate student employes Experience supporting, and being a member of a large team (adjunct instructors, student leaders) Establishes rapport; builds and maintains effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external audiences. Shows respect, compassion and empathy for others, even in difficult situations and builds an environment of trust Values and supports difference in others; ability to work with diverse populations including students with disabilities and/or first generation students Strong communication (verbal and written), and presentation (teaching and coaching) skills. Ability to listen, analyze, and problem solve. Ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences General understanding of the developmental needs of college students Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive and/or private records and information with discretion, protects information appropriately Ability to exercise a high level of independent judgment Ability to interpret and apply policy. Strong time management and organization skills.
