As our Valuation in Resolution Lead, you will be responsible for the regional coordination of Valuation in Resolution (ViR) for the US, and the execution of Valuation 2 and 3 SP&ST regional steps to deliver financial information to assist the regional CFO with decision making through a resolution scenario. Both aspects of the role are critical for future attestations of HSBC's ViR capabilities to the Bank of England. The role holder is responsible for adjustments to economic valuations of assets and liabilities, and forecast financials to support restructuring decisions and management actions, alongside corresponding insightful financial analysis and commentary to support the bank through resolution.

The successful candidate will work in partnership with other finance teams in the region, and with the Group Head of ViR, with exposure to senior management. They will operate in an exciting and challenging environment, providing guidance and analysis to the firm's decision makers. They will also gain close interaction with key stakeholders across the business divisions, back office functions and regions.

You will be responsible for:

ViR Command and Control

Coordinate and run the ViR exercise for the US, ensuring the timely and complete execution of Valuation 1 to 4. Chair regular ViR regional governance meetings to plan, track and report on ViR progress and completion. Report to the Group Head of ViR and the Group ViR command and control during assurance runs.

Execution of Valuation 2 and 3 Capabilities

Execute the regional Valuation 2 and 3 runbooks to support annual attestation to the Bank of England for the following capabilities:
  • Application of management overlays / adjustments on economic valuations
  • Assess via TM1 the overall impact of different management resolution actions to support restructuring and bail in decision making
  • Execution of a regional 5 year forecast on the resolved bank, including production of balance sheet, P&L, RWAs, and capital and liquidity metrics
ViR Executive MI

Delivering all financial and supporting MI required for reporting and analysis to the US Head of SP&ST and the US CFO. The scope includes a blend of fully digitised dashboard reporting and written papers, alongside additional deep-dive analysis as required, to drive decision making and strategic outcomes in a resolution scenario, and during the Bank's ViR exercises. Respond to ad hoc queries from Group SP&ST, the Independent Valuer, and other stakeholders as required.

Raf mi

Providing financial information to support wider capabilities within the Resolvability Assessment Framework, including funding plans, and intra-month forecasting. Work collaboratively with Recovery and Resolution Planning and other Group teams to deliver senior management information outside of ViR to support resolution decision making.

Continuous Improvement

Connecting with the Group VIR team and finance change team to identify and drive forward enhancements to ViR capabilities, and as the regional business owner, support change teams with impact assessment, delivery and testing of improvement initiatives. Liaise with other change programmes to continually enhance the output and efficiency of ViR
  • Having input on and tracking the development of these new surveillance capabilities.
  • Dealing with the alerts once they have already been passed through a first (level one) filter by the offshore team.
  • Ensuring that all alerts are satisfactorily escalated and resolved.
  • Providing support and guidance for our expanding off-shoring function.
  • Examining and suggesting improvements to the way they are generated to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the surveillance process.
  • Carrying out in investigations requested by Regulators, senior management and the businesses/asset classes into certain practices, businesses, individuals and events. Escalate, as appropriate, any material findings or incidents of misconduct highlighted by these investigations.


Qualifications

Employment eligibility to work with HSBC in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
  • Demonstrates business analytical and forecasting experience in a global organisation showing strong technical understanding of what drives the reported numbers
  • Demonstrates good delivery skills and has experience in delivering financial regulatory reporting and running regulatory exercises e.g. stress testing
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of financial statements, finance processes (e.g. budgeting, planning, forecasting, cost / revenue allocations) and finance systems, preference for a candidate with a professional qualification / certification
  • Demonstrates a drive for excellence and continuously looking at ways to improve processes and outputs
  • Significant experience working within financial services industry with significant exposure to senior Finance and non-finance staff
  • Ability to identify and articulate issues, but more importantly offer innovative and practical solutions, and drive through their execution in a collective and timely manner
  • Sound understanding of the Group's strategy, commercially minded, and a good understanding of the regulatory and legislative framework
  • Proven relationship management skills in dealing with all levels, with the confidence to interact with executive & senior management and make measured decisions
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal), planning and organisation skills
  • Exceptional drive and commitment; ability to work and thrive in a fast changing, results driven environment; and proven ability in handling competing priorities
