Requisition Number: F_210163 Department: Animal Science-0830 Description of Work: The Animal Science Professor of Practice position (1.0 FTE ) contributes to the innovative teaching mission within the Department of Animal Science and the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources ( IANR ), as an effective faculty member and citizen, including supporting student recruitment and IANR science literacy.  The Animal Science Professor of Practice is committed to excellence in teaching, actively engaged in innovative activities related to instruction and capable of utilizing methodologies appropriate for teaching both resident and distance-based courses. The Professor of Practice serves as the instructor for Animal Science or College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources ( CASNR ) courses which could include ASCI 210: Animal Products; ASCI 201: Professional Development Seminar; ASCI 395: Experiential Learning for Career Development in Animal Sciences – Industry Experiences; and SCIL 101: Science and Decision-making for a Complex World. The incumbent serves as the departmental undergraduate experiential learning coordinator and collaborates with Animal Science faculty for advancement of undergraduate student career readiness skills, including, but not limited to, critical thinking, leadership, teamwork, confidence, and communication. The Animal Science Professor of Practice serves as an undergraduate academic advisor and contributes to mentoring students on academic probation. In addition, the Professor of Practice focuses on student success, including student retention, matriculation success, and narrowing the equity gap. In addition to the above-described duties, the individual will be expected to accept committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and/or university level. Experience and demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate courses focused on food animal production. Proven ability to communicate effectively with students, professionals, and the general public. Preferred Qualifications: Commitment to experiential education. Experience in program development. Experience teaching both traditional and non-traditional college students in face-to-face and online courses. Experience in course design, development, and management at the undergraduate level. Excellent oral and written communication skills with emphasis on communication with a variety of stakeholders. Evidence of work with diverse or underrepresented communities or groups. Experience with advising and/or mentoring undergraduate students. Job Type: 9 Month
